The simple act of thanking someone for being there never fails to surprise me. At the doctor the other day, the office worker was obviously unhappy. No eye contact. Finally, when all the paperwork was done, I looked at her (she had still not looked at me yet) and said, "Thanks for being here." She IMMEDIATELY looked at me and smiled and said thanks. Many people are lonely. These simple human connections matter, especially when everyone's tied to a keyboard.

Dale Carnegie says it in his book, how to win friends and influence people. The one thing that people truly desire the most is the feeling of importance. People are not interested in money, fame or anything else, just the feeling of importance.

This is absolutely true. 99.9% of people don't actually care about you so it is rare when you find someone that is truly interested in you and both of you reciprocating is even more rare. Pay attention this is a key to finding the one.

I make and sell handmade pottery. And this is one of the principles that I use to sell my work. Because when you’re selling your art it’s a little bit about me and what I do. But it’s also about making someone feel really good about themselves and making them feel important. So when they take their pottery home and start using it, they are left with those good vibes and therefore are a very happy customer that will return. It also helps that I make amazing masterful pottery 😂

I do this almost naturally! And you can really see how people open themselves up to you if you really pay attention to them and do these things, people starve for this sorta of attention, and when you give to them they jump on it, only feasting on that feeling without reciprocating. Unfortunately, this is a one way avenue, since no one has never done it to me! Honestly it just makes you tired, you can be what people need, but never can find one to be or do anything of that sort for you. 😂

The best conversation I had in years was with a stripper a few months ago at a birthday. I was hanging back at the bar, and she correctly detected I wasn't super into the party atmosphere so she chatted me up instead. I knew exactly what she was doing, it was a basic ass sales 101 F.O.R.D. conversation. I knew exactly what she was doing, but it worked flawlessly on me anyways.

It was the only time anybody had asked me anything about me beyond "are you capable of performing the function I need you for?" in years.

I actually think and behave like this naturally but on the flip side this mindset leaves you feeling depleted and lonely. What he's saying is correct people don't naturally think and cater to others which also means the person your doing this for won't return that same energy.
