Skyrim - How to get Chillrend WITHOUT Quest (Unique Sword) Fast Guide

This Walkthrough Guide shows you how to obtain Chillrend (unique enchanted sword) without doing all the Thieves Guild quests.

Chillrend
- 30 Points Frost Damage to Health and Stamina.
- Chance to paralyze the target for 2 seconds.
- Chillrend is the second strongest sword in the game, after Miraak's Sword (found in the Dragonborn DLC).
- Chillrend can be upgraded with a refined malachite, It also benefits from the Glass Smithing perk, which doubles the improvement.

IMPORTANT
- Note that the enchantment on this sword is leveled; this means if you get it before level 46+ then your enchantment will be a weaker version.
- DO NOT pick up Mercers Plans, as this can glitch the Thieves Guild Quest line.
- If you have a low Lock Pick Skill you can use the wood wheel barrel and push it to the fence and jump over.

funny story about this weapon. I had Cicero as a companion way late game in my playthrough and I had much stronger equipment through smithing so I gave this sword to him. I got bored so I started a fight with him.he froze me with it and I got destroyed even with my endgame equipment on. the moral of the story is don't attack murderous psychopaths who can paralyze you.

WARNING: do NOT take "Mercer's plans" on the table if you are not in the house for the Thief's Guild quest. If you do, you will never be able to complete the Thief's Guild quest line. Ever.

To lockpick the balcony door if you suck at it, go up north and there and there will be a lockpick stone somewhere so you can either unlock the sword case or the door.

Before picking lock, turn round to the chest behind you, there is. Ring that makes lock picking 15% easier

I have to say this getting on top of the rooftop took me SOOOO many tries. I lost count how often I tried to even jump on the barrel. Then I saved when I finally got on the barrel. Getting on top of the roof was easy enough, but when I realized that if you're not constantly moving on the roof away from the edge then you slide off. I saved while on the roof while sliding and then tried to cross the gate. That was the most frustrating part. I saved while standing on the gate and proceeded to fail getting on to the next rooftop so many times. I think I tried for a solid 30-40 minutes. I was finally about to give up then I decided to try to get to the second rooftop once more and FINALLY made the second roof top and got so excited. I quickly saved so I wouldn't fall off. The rest was extremely easy. The video was extremely helpful, and ESO makes it look extremely easy. It was not. Also, my chillrend spawned with a damage rating of 18 with an enchantment of 30 frost damage. I am also level 54 so I thought the damage rating would be maxed. I saw that your chillrend spawned at 59 damage. Is that because you've maxed out your one handed skill??? My one handed skill is only a measly 35 with no perk points in that skill tree. Is that why my sword is so much weaker than yours??

If your planing on getting your nightingale gear do not take mercers plans on the table beside chillrend, s case or the girl i can barely recall her name but she will disappear and you cant finish the quest line i thought i should let every one know to save some trouble for some also if you take the mercers plans without the quest say good bye to your nighten gale gear pluss the skeleton key

You actually don't need to jump on the roof or need a key. You just go around to the back, picklock tbr back yard gate. Then the ramp you see on the balcony (it looks like a giant wall) there under it is a black thing (I'll just call it that...) Shoot it with an arrow and the ramo will fa, then just go through the door and into the house. :3

I pick locked the display case after only 2-3 tries. Only an Apprentice. NAILED IT.

You can also shoot the ramp beside the balcony, no need to jump barrel then. In the Thieves Guild questline, there's a quest to break into the house and steal that map.

As a level 1 with 80 in 1 handed and no skill points used... this sword is only 14dmg(it does 5 frost dmg too but runs out of charges in like 10 hits)
Bolar’s Oathblade does 15 dmg and the elven sword from Baalgrufs display case also does 15dmg

I use the exact trick to get this beautiful sword, it is indeed 1 of the best blades in game  I always look for it wen I get lv 46    great video man btw your assassin lady is very cute:))

to get onto the balcony you can use unrelenting force to make the platform fall so you can walk on it
