NZ Union had weight divisions decades ago

Most of the time it's the parents typically the mums who don't want to see their kid getting smashed by kids 30kgs heavier. Weight divisions are there for a reason.

sure lets put a 70kg 13 year old up against 70kg 16-18 year olds that wont hurt their development at all

If anyone catches up to the big kid, then he wasn't trained properly to learn those things.

I get the feeling Cleary is going to be approached by the Warriors in a few years

Weight limits are a fair way to do it, But you also need to think of skill levels too. There are 8 year olds as big as 10 years olds but they lack the maturity and mindset to match the skill level of a 10 year old. My stepdaughter is 8 but is playing u7s due to being born after the season ends and being 2kgs under the u7s limit and its benefiting her and she's not destroying the u7s because she's playing with kids of a similar skill level. Some of the 7 year olds are bigger than her, too.
