I personally recommend freeze dried blood worms. They are right next to the betta fish in every pet store. Just rehydrate with distilled water, make a small ball that can fit comfortably with room to spare in the trap (like only fill 1/3rd or 1/2 of the trap), remove excess water from the meat ball, and drop it in the trap. The trap needs to be made aware that there is actually food so just repeatedly give it little gentle squeezes to trigger the trap to digest. It's more effort than live bugs but i don't like live bugs. They are just not pleasant for me to handle.

Omg! Yesterday, I just happen to receive a VFT with a slug already being “eaten” with the tail of the slug still sticking outside the trap eek😮. After flashing a light to it, you can see it’s a pretty good size slug. This is going to be a while, but I can’t wait to see what’s left

I'm no expert but very interested in the topic. I read on multiple occasions that you shouldn't feed dead insects. The trap will close because of contact while deploying the bug, but will not proceed to seal the trap when there is no further movement by the prey. It would then open up again after a day, having spent a lot of energy on the movement. How is your experience with dead insects? Do your traps seal when fed dead prey?

Beginner here. 2 weeks exactly with my new Venus fly trap and I'm amazed with it. I mainly focused first and foremost with the very basic, learning from you about taking care of it starting with watering and enough sunlight according to their need, I even rotate the pot from time to time so it can receive enough sunlight everywhere depending on the time of the day that is.
Haven't tried the food part but I'm confident that the prior activities are being very satisfying to do.
Even 2 new buttons are on their way to sprout soon to become 2 new mouths.
What if I feed it with a small cockroach that I find? It's it o.k.?

From what I've seen with mine, you can't feed them dead bugs. Since there's no movement the digestive enzymes don't get released and the trap just owns within a day or two with the dead bug not touched.

I don't know what's up with mine. I put live meal worms in traps and they don't trigger. I've tried tickling the hairs myself repeatedly and nothing

Do sundews produce less dew in winter? Or do they produce less when fed enough? Mine is quite dry in spite of moist soil, ok humidity and a bright spot near a south facing window. I water with rain water and the soil is coconut coir (mostly).
