In this video, we will review how to find Venus, when it is absent in the sky, and explore its 584-day cycle that has been observed and recorded in many ancient civilizations. Out of all the planets, Venus is probably the easiest of all the planets to identify. It is the 3rd brightest object in the sky, after the sun and moon. Venus is only visible at sunset or sunrise.

Lovely video! ;) Here where I live in Canada, yesterday night was a clear one, so I just was watching Venus in my evening sky, very bright and relatively high in the sky. Very cool sight to see. On the other side of the sky were the almost full moon with Juptier as they are in conjunction(appulse). Was a cool night.

Very nice. Amazing the patterns that can be discerned, not only in earthly Nature, but in the sky. I first came across the Golden Ratio in woodworking.

We have trees blocking our view to the southwest so it's hard to see Venus, but we do have a clear view to the to the east to see Jupiter and Mars. Thanks Janine! 🪐🪐👍👍

Love your videos! As a first timer to finding constellations, I was curious about what that bright "star" was and it turned out to be Venus. I also saw Orion and the Winter Hexagon!
I think I have watched almost all your videos, it's very informative

Thank you for this illuminating perspective of my favorite planet. Almost all visitors to DMNS prefer looking at Saturn because of its fascinating rings. But when I show them Venus in full daylight when it is far away from the sun they are totally blown away. It’s rings are Saturn’s superpower. Venus superpowers are its daytime visibility and phases. Mars superpowers are its color and surface detail near opposition. Jupiter’s superpower is it has four moons that change position nightly. Poor Mercury is too near the sun and is hard to follow so only a handful of visitors ask about it.

I didn’t know any of this. Excellent video! I wonder if there’s an app to always let you find Venus.

I was up until very late last night staring at stars and planets through my new binoculars. I’m obsessed with the Pleiades cluster btw. It calms me. Your channel is very helpful to understand what I’m looking at. Thank you for the episode on star charts. Those things can be so confusing. Some constellations are really tough to visualize but I guess I’ll get them in time. I’m not sure I’ll ever see the “bull” shape in Taurus though. lol.

honestly, if i have to admit, i dont really stargaze often, probably because i need to sleep or i have no motivation to so do. the last two weeks was thai fathers day and since its fathers day we went to the park we liked to walk in, it was evening and i saw the moon but also something near it, it didnt twinkle so i know it wasnt a star or a plane (i am a victim of getting tricked into thinking a plane is a star, not fun) i tried to check what it is and it was venus, i was in awe!!! ill probably never forget that day, also, love you dad.

Soviet Union is the only nation to have internationally and successfully landed on Venus. But they needed a few tries before succeeding. One of the Pioneers atmospheric proper which crashed on Venus actually survived and broadcasted for about an hour before eventually dying. So you can argue that NASA managed to land on Venus too.

What's that super bright star/planet that's always to the lower right to the moon?

I have no western view due to obstruction and never get to image or view Venus. I may set my alarm and try and see it in the east.
