The Spanish came across the islands (Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba) first. Called them useless islands. The spanish settled first and were the first to exploit the native people. The Portuguese, the English, the French and the Dutch have all shown interest in the islands. Especially Curaçao, due to the natural, easy to defend harbor. You are picking and choosing information rather at random and making up history. The Dutch West Indian Company was formed after the VOC. The VOC is the biggest company in the history of the world. It’s bigger than Apple, Google and Microsoft combined. If these three companies were to merge and settle on any island in the world, it would have a big impact. That’s just logical. The islands have never been great exporters of goods. They are just too small. Curaçao is mostly catholic and we speak papiamentu. The Dutch did a lot of trading, hence there was a lot of freedom of religion, culture and customs. If they were oppressors, like you want to make it seem in your video, we would be playing 4/4 based music and not have our own language. Your video is not only inaccurate. It does not make sense. The Dutch have had a big impact and so have the spanish and so have the africans and the venezuelans and the jews and the americans and so on on the history and culture of these islands. Our culture is a mix of all that have come before. Those have been many due to the location of the islands. The islands are able to maintain their identity because the ones who have conquered the islands were never interested in the islands themselves. They were, and are interested, in the trade that is possible due to their locations. And throughout human history trade has let to mixing and mingling of cultures. Our identity is that mixture. You asked how come these islands can maintain their identity? Thanks to the small size of the islands and open mindedness of the traders that have settled here, it’s simply not possible to adhere to narrow minded ideas, specific cultures or religions. You learn to go along with everybody. And you become that mix. You become Curaçao. You’ll have protestant grandpa and a creole grandma on your father’s side and a chinese grandpa and indigenous grandma on your mother’s side. You’ll eat rise, casave and rum and your best friends will be from all walks of life. All those people and their cultures came to settle here because the Dutch brought a lot…. A whole lot of prosperity… to the islands and we’ve been mixing ever since. And if the God and all the others Gods permit, we will just keep on doing our thing. Please include a more accurate version of history in your videos. And stop using pics of slavery elsewhere to illustrate the slavery we had. You may think that slavery is all the same everywhere because… you have a limited view of human history. Ours slavery was different from the crueler version in the USA. The surinam descendants from slavery do not come to our celebrations of Tula. Yes sir, due to the mixing of cultures even the transatlantic slavery has been different in different parts of the americas. I hope you get the idea now.

The nowaday generation Dutch people don't support colonialism and are not too blame the historical moments before someones birth. Living in the Netherlands where 200 years ago the government was corrupt, does not make the nowadays politics or nowadays generation of citizens living in the Netherlands corrupt. This video is misleading! 😢 Speaking about corrupt, ALL former Dutch colonial countries are extremely corrupt! Citizens there are victim by their own people but want to blame the Dutch government and even today's generation Dutch white people. Saying sorry and turning a blind eye to their corruptive behavior makes no sense.
