Jerry Lewis was a singer, actor, director and comedic genius who had a knack for making people laugh. He gained fame for his use of physical comedy, exaggerated facial expressions, and slapstick humor. Notable sketches that brought him recognition were "Nutty Professor," "Lunchtime," and "Silly Songs." His distinctive speech style, characterized by stutters and malapropisms, further contributed to his popularity. Additionally, he was renowned for his collaborations with Dean Martin.
However, his private life was marred by dark secrets that only came to light after his passing. In a recent article by Vanity Fair in February 2022, it was revealed that some of Lewis's former co-stars from the 1960s had bravely spoken out about allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and verbal abuse.
These allegations have shocked many fans and tarnished the legacy of a beloved entertainer. The article detailed accounts from several individuals who worked closely with Lewis during his prime years in the entertainment industry. They described instances of Lewis using his power and influence to exploit and mistreat those around him.
One former co-star, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted a disturbing incident where Lewis allegedly assaulted her during a film shoot. She claimed that Lewis took advantage of his position as the director and subjected her to unwanted advances and physical contact. Another actress spoke out about enduring verbal abuse from Lewis, recounting instances where he would belittle and demean her on set.
Lewis, known for his slapstick humor and charitable work, had built a reputation as a beloved figure in the entertainment world. However, these allegations have forced many to question the true nature of the man behind the laughter.

I think Dean Martin severed his partnership for good reasons!
Jerry was "a devil with a smile."

So disappointed to hear about his behaviour. I loved him as a kid, now I just think he was a disgusting horrid human.

His life story isn't far from typical in the Hollywood of his era. There were plenty of abusive, cruel people that felt no remorse for their actions in public or in private. Also, Jerry Lewis and Jerry LEE Lewis are not the same person. Fire your photo editor.

What a terrible thing to do to not give his sons anything, but all to the adopted daughter, why???

I thought he was the funniest guy when I was a kid. But as I grew up, I became more and more sickened by his inappropriate behavior and irreverent attitude. There is no way you can treat a wife and 6 sons like crap and still be someone adored by millions of fans. I've never thought the private lives of fans was any of the public's business. But, if you're going to have a public life, you owe it to the public to behave like a human being. And he was no model. Especially for kids.

The longer I live the more I am discovering how despicable most of the celebrities I worshipped as a child were in real life. Breaks my heart.

He was a despicable inhumane husband and father to his first wife and sons. A bitter self centered being that ruled by intimidation and fear.

In my short career as a child actor in the 50's and early 60's, I was PERSONALLY rejected for a role by not only Lewis, but the GREAT Jack Benny.

They would bring in 10 kids at a time to Lewis' office, and we stood in a semicircle around his desk as Jerry looked for the right face. He very funny mimicked me because I was chewing gum. Benny was the final judge when it came down to me and the other kid, and he picked the other kid.

Well, At least I was rejected by two LEGENDS!

Jerry was a jerk. Literally. He was probably the most narcissistic actor?comedian? Filmmaker? ever. He is the top 10 anyway. I am 74. I watched them, as a child, I just kept thinking, why am I not laughing?

When I was 10 years old I donated 2 weeks worth of allowance to the Muscular Dystrophy Association that Jerry Lewis was taking care of and Jerry Lewis wrote me a signed letter back personally thanking a kid from Brooklyn giving his 20 dollars to the MDA. He even put his signature comedy face stamp on the letter.

I once saw Lewis being interviewed on TV. He was clearly in his latter years (he looked old)
and did not like being interviewed. He gave single-syllable answers (yes, no etc.).
It must have been an absolute nightmare for the interviewer. He acted like a spoiled kid.
This really surprised and disappointed me!

Narcissists are drawn to positions of power or situations in which they will be admired. They cannot feel compassion, empathy, or remorse.
