Text to Speech Using Enhanced Voices from macOS Ventura

macOS Ventura has enhanced voices for text to speech but it's a little convoluted on how you download them for use. This video shows you how to add them. I use TTS to convert text news articles to spoken text for listening while running, working out in the gym, cooking in the kitchen or driving. I used to use Microsoft's Azure TTS to do this when they offered free samples but I can't find that service anymore. Microsoft Windows does have a way to do it but it's difficult to use as it is an accessibility feature moreso than a convenient way to convert text to speech. It's clear that Microsoft wants to monetize TTS while Apple just includes it in the operating system.

Thank you for the video!!!

I have Monterrey and the voice downloads are hidden in the preferences > accessibility > spoken content

But there aren’t as many voices as in your MacOS

I have enjoyed TTS since the 90’s “I have a frog in my throat” 😂

I'm not sure if you are aware of that, but you can select a text in any app, then use Option+Esc to read it with synthetiser. Voices are selected in Accessibility settings

It seems like the high quality nicky voice has been removed.
