Pecan Orchard Pre-Harvest Work.

Hello, pecan harvest is approaching quickly. We are getting ready to use the Bag-A-Nut 42” Harvest Pro.

We had hog damage that we smoothed out with a chain harrow. We then mowed the lanes. The goal being to have a nice smooth surface for the Bag-A-Nut harvester to pick up the pecans.

I recently visited a pecan orchard near Cleveland, OK.who had their irrigation buried underground. They ran poly-tube with built in emitters every 5' down each side of each row of trees. I will probably do something similar when I replace my system in the next few years. I don't have problems with hogs in Amarillo yet but the other critters do pull the emitters off the poly-tube from time to time.

Why aren't you rotationally grazing sheep in the orchard? Pasture management plus free ferilization and some additional watering.
