Yeah I've always wondered because they state that for the fusion dance, they have to be the exact same power level, so that means that one person has to lower their power level for the other person. So I've always wondered if that means that the fusion uses that persons lowered power level. But with the potara fusion, one person doesn't have to lower their power level

The answer is definite if you consider the validity of your sources. For example, the Daizenshuu states that Potara is more powerful in two separate entries, & WSJ says Fusion is more powerful. These two sources cannot coexist, so you must decide which is more valuable.

In this case, the Daizenshuu is far more reliable than Jump articles because of its method of creation, Toriyama interviews, & being specifically endorsed by him. In Jump articles, the content is largely up to Jump writers.

The potara earrings are supposed to be able to fuse 2 beings and combine both of their full power, meanwhile the fusion dance needs both participants to be on the same power level. This would make you think the potaras are stronger, however given how close Goku and Vegeta are in terms of power, both constantly rising at about the same pace, it wouldn't make too much of a differnce.

Actually, the thing is that both are equals, it's just that the chances for the fusion to happen succesfully is more in potara as it doesn't require any proper angle, finger matching and all that bs, it can be done in an instant as it guarantees a 100 % Successful fusion, whereas the Fusion Dance is an alternative that has like 50/50 chance for the fusion to happen successfully, hence it takes time to pull it off, so in a situation where you don't have much time against the enemy, you go with the potara, whereas when you have enough time against your enemy, you go for the Dance. That's my Theory

I'd like to think that the fusion dance draws out more power due to the shorter time limit while the potara draws out more potential due to it probably having some magical effect to be worn by a supreme Kai

Patara fusion is more stable, lasts longer, the two people involved don’t have to match their power levels. That means that the Patara Fusion will combine their powers at the existing levels. With Fusion dance, it only lasts 30 minutes, it has to be performed perfectly in sync, and power levels have to match exactly. In the Gotenks fusion trunks has to lower his power level to Goten’s level for it to work. So the Fusion dance can potentially have a stronger outcome, it has too many prerequisites that, if not met, can have a negative impact on the outcome. The Patara fusion eliminates those prerequisites, can be done quickly, and by its design by/for divine beings (the Kai’s) it’s more stable. With the Patara earrings anyone of earths fighters could fuse with any of the other fighters, because the earring ignore the limitations that Fuse dance faces.
