Refraction of Light

What is Refraction of Light? Refraction is the bending of light when it travels from one medium to another medium. Refraction is caused by the change in speed of light.
In the beginning of the video, we show a Magic trick based on refraction! We discuss the different cases of refraction of light in detail: When light travels from a denser to a rarer medium and from a rarer to a denser material. Also when light is incident normally on a medium.

Answers for the questions asked in the video,
A.1) When light travels from water (optically denser medium) to air (optically rarer medium), it's speed increases which is why it tends to move away from the normal. Here, Angle of incidence < Angle of Refraction

A.2) Refraction of light occurs when the light ray travels from one medium to another medium. The reason behind this is because the speed of the light changes while doing so. For eg, when light travels from air to glass, it's speed decreases which is why it refracts from it's original path. Whereas when light travels from glass to air, it's speed increases which is why it bends away.

A.3) Yes, a pool appears to be shallow when viewed normally as the refraction of light comes into play.

First time seeing your video and I absolutely liked it 📝👍🏻

1. It will bend away from the normal; most probably towards the right and the angle of refraction would be larger than the angle of incidence. Also, the speed increases as the density of the material decreases.
2. Refraction takes place because of the change in the speed of light. This happens if a medium is either denser or less dense than the other.
3. Yes. The pool appears shallower because of the bending of light or the refraction of light.

1) When light travels from water to air, it bends away form the normal
2)The cause of refraction is the change in velocity of light when traveling from one media to another as the optical density differs.
3) The pool appears to be shallow as light is traveling from air(an optically rarer medium) to water (an optically denser medium)

Q1.
Ans.When the light travels from the denser medium to the rarer medium, the light rays travel away from the medium. Thus, the angle of incidence < angle of refraction.

Q2.
Ans.The cause of refraction of light is;
Change in medium.
And change in speed of light.

Q3.
Ans.Yes, the pool appears to be shallow when viewed normally because
of refraction.

Hello Sir, it was very useful for me.
As I am a physics lover, I enjoyed the class.

*Answers of the TOP 3 QUESTIONS:-*
1) When light travels from an Optically denser medium (water) to an Optically rarer medium (air), it bends away from the Normal.
2) Refraction happens due to change in speed of light as it passes through different mediums.
3) No. In this case, if the normal view is perpendicular to the pool, then the pool won't apper shallow. As the light will pass perpendicular to the pool, so it won't bend.
I hope my answers are all correct!! ❤

1.) The light bends away from the normal.
2.) Refraction occurs due to the change in the speed of light
3.) Yes because of the refraction of light

1) When light travels from water to air it bends away from the normal as water is optically more denser then air. So the speed of light increases from water to air.
2) Refraction of light takes place due to the change in the speed of light as it passes from one transparent medium to another obliquely.
3) No, a pool does not appear to be shallow when viewed normally. This is because :
# no refraction takes place when light is incident normally.

1) when light travels from water (that is relatively denser medium) to air (that is relatively rarer medium )it bends away from the normal..

2) the main casue of the refraction of the light is the bending of light when its travels from a transparent medium to a another transparent medium with higher or greater optical density.... And when light travels from one medium to another its speed slows down and hence as a result the light ray bends .

3) yes and it is because of the refraction of the light

2)

Ans1: When light travel from water to air means denser to rarer its bends away from the normal.
Ans2: Refraction of light cause due to change of speed and cause by optically density of the medium.
Ans2:Yes.Pool appear to be shallower than they actually is due to phenomena called refraction.Pool looks shallower due to light bends on water surface making object under water aapears higher.

Q1: the light travels away from the normal since it is traveling from an optically densar medium to optically rarer medium.

Q2: The cause of refraction of is the change of the speed of the light when it enters into different medium( different optical density).
Q3:No, the pool doesn't appear to be shallow as the refraction doesn't takes place in the case when it is viewed normally
