I see the desire to compare the geekom to a beefed up apple but show use the numbers of a bare bones 599 to the geekom, or even the 16gb 799 version of the m2 to make the price one for one...what can I get for the same 799 between the two?

I'm on team Geekom, I have one and love it. I do a lot of audio mixing and mastering, it works great. Besides, buy apple, your paying for the name, status, I guess some folks need that (I'm talking to you bro!).

In this type of test, there's never any comparison with regard to the noise of the machine. Barebones are often much noisier than the Mac mini, which remains almost inaudible.
Two HDMI ports and no usb-c at the back - who are we kidding? In 2024 = unacceptable.

How jittery was the playback on the video when editing on the Geekom? So far, I have yet to find a mini pc that can handle even 8 bit h.264 or mov without jittering like crazy.

Just turn the Mac Mini around brother! Look at all those ports!

If you don’t mind the ports and wires coming out of the front, why would you mind a power jack? And with it turned around like that, it looks just as plastic and cheap as your optional set up! 😂😂😂

My point is that aluminum will last a hell of a lot longer than a computer in a plastic box!

I use to buy plastic box alternatives for Guitar stomp boxes, and they never lasted!

But having said that, whatever drives the price down on a computer that can edit video & music with all of the other computer basics needed in 2023 & beyond is always good for the consumer!

My M2 absolutely runs my channel! Before that I ran my channel on a 2020 iPad Pro, which I still edit on from time to time.

Unless you’re doing video that demands a high end computer with a zillion gig of ram, and a quadrillion GB storage, the M2 accomplishes what most content creators need to accomplish.

Like you said at the beginning of your excellent video: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Yeah but Apple internal power sources tax the CPU. Given how bloated Windows is, wonde how the little guy would work as a Hackintosh?

benchmarks are completely useless, since they measure things in very specific ways.. Also the numbers don't say much, in real life use.
e.g. 1000 score vs 700, what does that say? how much slower is the latter? in real usage that is? does this means 1 second slower? 2? 10? a benchmark cannot say that.
Also your "real life" usage is quite specific (video/photo), which is unfair because of the encoders that are in place in the mac. You should do tests that do not use these hardware advantages.
Thus a more fair compare.
