Drinker's Extra Shots - The Hunt

It's been a while since I've done an Extra Shots review, and I'm coming back with an absolute banger this time. Not an action movie or a thriller, but a compelling psychological drama starring Mads Mikkelsen as a teacher whose life spirals out of control after he's falsely accused of a crime.

It's not a story with no villains. It's a story that exposes the villain in each normal person when they cave to the social pressures of society.

Absolute top tier movie that everyone should see that thoroughly evidences how much Hollywood wastes Mads :(

Fun fact: Mads Mikkelsen himself has said he firmly disagrees with political correctness and I think making this movie helped him feel this way. A genuinely difficult film to watch at points.

I took class with a guy who was accused of doing something terrible to a girl at a party (you can guess what I mean by this). He was fortunate that many of his friends stood by him, and even some friends of the "victim" came to his defense, but throughout the entire investigation he was basically cast out by most people. Seeing him go from a normal socially active person to a shell of a guy who would sit quietly in the back of a classroom only to disappear once class was over is something that stuck with me.

He was eventually cleared, but it took months for a lot of people to treat him normally again. And several of his friends who abandoned him never sought his friendship again even after being proven innocent. I hope he's doing well now, but I gotta imagine he's never been the same since.

A false accusation is something I truly fear after seeing what happened to him.

Mikkelsen possesses a unique type of charisma that makes him a notable presence in nearly every movie he's in, and his presence alone often elevates the work beyond an unassuming plot or a barely average script.

I've been falsely accused of the same things Mads Mikkelsen's character is accused here, and worst too. Thank you Drinker for bringing to light something that is more common than people think, and a good movie that will (for me personally at least) be a cathartic experience for sure. I really appreciate you for recommending movies like these because otherwise I don't really think I would ever hear of these, as they show a side of society that is usually swept under the rug.

Dude being falsely accused like that would be a nightmare. It’s one of those things that, even if you could 100% prove your innocence, people would always second-guess or look at you differently.. more so if it had anything to do with a minor. That’s a much more terrifying thought…

As my grandfather used to say, "jump to conclusions, risk breaking your ankles."

This is one of the best foreign language movies ever made. I remember watching it and feeling so angry at the injustice of the situation. Utterly brilliant.

I watched this on prime a few years back and recommended it to loads of people. It certainly fired up some inner man feelings.

And reminded me why we have so few male teachers in schools and why so many males quit volunteering at sports and after school clubs.

One accusation or a few whispers and you're fudged 🤯

A Mads Mikkelsen film Drinker might like is _Another Round;_
It's about four friends and colleagues (they are all high school teachers) who decide to do an experiment where they keep their blood alcohol at a certain level throughout the day for an agreed upon period of time.

A family friend was falsely accused by a student. Life ruined, he ended up committing suicide. The student? Sexually assaulted by her father but thought blaming someone else would help. Stayed quiet about the truth until not long after the suicide. This movie sounds like it would hit deep.

Its one of the most disturbing and equally brilliant movie, The ending is just disturbing, devastating and can't never ask for a better ending, its disturbing bcoz its somehow a reality to one who goes through such a phase in life. Mads Mikkelsen brought such an intense emotional performance, on each screen we root for his character from the start to finish. Hollywood will never make these kind of movies ever. 9/10.

I was wondering when the drinker was going to get around to reviewing this one. A true gem. Also take note the production costs for this film where around 3 mil. If this was Hollywood it would cost 10x to 20x that... with half the impact.

This movie rocked Denmark when it came out. We actually make lots of good movies like this. Yes, I am Danish ;-)

I saw this movie when it came out and was blown away (as well as horrified at the reality of the situation). I saw the director on Charlie Rose talk about why he made this film. He said he asked a psychologist for information on sexual assault cases by a parent on a child for his film Celebration. The psychologist suggested that he take cases from false accusations as well since the psychologist felt that this issue was underrepresented. Fascinating stuff.

Mads doesn't miss.

Even in bad movies he's amazing.

This movie is intense and so well done. Specially when you recognize that betrayed feeling, the "no one actually believes anything i say" realization.

You cant help but feel angry for him. You want him to get revenge and just ditch all of them for betraying him. You want it to turn into a John Wick movie because it would be easier on your heart.

Its going to be a hard time but i highely recommend it if you want to see a good story that makes you feel instead of just spend time.

This was a film of its time but increasingly relevant, sadly. A very good film. I saw it when it came out, only once but still remember it well. Especially the ending. The latter makes it a very real, credible film.
