Chana Masala - Easy Chickpea Curry Recipe

Chana masala is an Indian chickpea curry recipe. For this simple chana masala recipe, I'm using the fewest ingredients I can. I do add Garam masala and cilantro in this version of chickpea curry; those two ingredients are optional, but certainly use them if you have them on hand. Chana masala, or chole masala, is a delicious Indian staple and a great introduction to Indian cooking.

Your first video on Chana masala you made way back when was my intro to this wonderfully easy and tasty recipe.

When I'm feeling fancy I'll dry roast some extra spices like cinnamon, coriander, and cardamom for a little bit before I add my oil. I'll also toss in some fenugreek powder. It adds a lot of depth.

One extra ingredient I saw in another recipe that I always add now is Amchur powder, aka dried mango. Toss some in at the very end - that sweet fruity finish (just a touch!) adds some brightness to an already terrific savory and spicy dish to really make all the flavors pop. Give it a try sometime!

That’s kind of like a curry goulash. Sure looks good a full of flavor 👌😁👍

I enjoyed watching this recipe as I have never seen it being made. I have only had chickpeas tossed in salad or as hummus but never had it cooked. Now curious how it tastes warmed. I should try this. Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for this recipe Buck! I am a lazy intuition cook which means food doesn't always turn out great but I wanted to chose a recipe of yours that was easy to make and I followed it to a tee and it turned out great. Even tastier the next day after all the flavors settled in.

Chana Masala is awesome. Very popular among people from South Asia. You can eat it along with puri (fried wheat breads) for authentic Indian experience! Garam means Hot in Hindi or Marathi languages. So that masala / spice mix is indeed adding a lot of hotness and flavor. Thank you for making these Indian dishes, Chef Buck and CG. Have a nice weekend!!

Hi, CB and CG! Mmmmm... love Indian food, love the aromas even more than the flavors. I could smell that Chana Masala right over the internet and through the screen. Bon appetit!
BTW, do you ever prepare Jalfrezi style sauce? That's the one with the green bell pepper, very distinctive, great with seafood or chicken. I looked on your Indian foods playlist and didn't see it. If you have a recipe you use, maybe that would be a good one to share, while summer veggies like bell peppers are abundant. Thanks!
