Consumers can find out if the egg is genuine by simply dipping the shell pieces of suspected fake (or plastic) egg in strong acids (like 2N hydrochloric acid). Calcium carbonate, being the major component of egg shells, will dissolve the shells in the acid.

How do you tell if the eggs are real?
First, fill a bowl or glass with about four inches of cold water and gently place your egg(s) inside. Very fresh eggs will sink to the bottom and lay on their sides. If an egg stays at the bottom but stands on its small end, it's still acceptable to eat; just not quite as fresh.

What do real eggs look like?
Fresh eggs will have a bright yellow or orange yolk, where the egg white is slightly stiff and sits up around the yolk. The white of a not-so-fresh egg will be more flat and spread out.

What are the ingredients in fake eggs?
Egg Replacer is a mixture of "potato starch, tapioca flour, leavening (calcium lactate, calcium carbonate, cream of tartar), cellulose gum, modified cellulose".

How do you verify eggs?
If your eggs sink to the bottom and lie flat on their sides, they are very fresh. If your eggs stand on one end at the bottom, they are a few weeks old, but still fine to eat. If your eggs float to the surface, they are no longer fresh.

Why do my eggs look like plastic?
Here's Why Your Fried Eggs Look Like Plastic
You're overcooking your eggs. Plastic-looking fried eggs are so common among home cooks that there have been numerous Reddit threads created just to discuss the issue. According to commenters, the reason your eggs are getting that not-so-appealing sheen is that you're overcooking the eggs.

Are floating eggs OK?

Simply fill a bowl with cold tap water and place your eggs in it. If they sink to the bottom and lay flat on one side, they are fresh and good to eat. A bad egg will float because of the large air cell that forms at its base. Any floating eggs should be thrown out.

REAL EGGS HAVE A RAW SMELL WHILE FAKE EGGS ARE ODOURLESS.
7. Know that you are frying a fake egg if the yolk spreads without you touching it.

8. Put the shell in fire. If the egg is fake, the shell will catch fire or start melting with a plastic-like odour coming out of it.

The real eggs"s shells are much thinner than the fake eggs also!

At 0:57 you can see a flaw in the shell you're trying to hide. It is on the right side of the egg and you pan down/away before showing it.

I'm curious about what causes these differences in the organic and non-organic egg? There are so many differences in the farming of chickens for organic eggs like cage-free, free-range, pasture-raised, vegetarian diet, or antibiotic-free...and the list goes on. I'm sure diet plays a big part, but is there a difference in the eggs if it's for example a cage-free vegetarian chicken or a free-range antibiotic-free chicken?

The fact that there is a video about this is so fucking ridiculous. We shouldn't have to do that.

By definition they are all organic. It ticks me off that people buy into this new FDA definition for food labeling that was lobbied and paid for by special interest.

anyway we have chickens which we also get eggs from, so I'm gonna do some testing myself.

Wow, as somone who OWNS organic chickens that are free roaming? Yeah, so, none of this is correct. Different breeds of chickens lay different color eggs. Easter eggers and cream leggbars will lay lay pale blue and pale green eggs. Olive eggers lay a very green to greenish brown. There's other breeds that lay pinkish eggs. The egg on the right matches what my buff orpingtons and blue australorps lay. The ones on the left look closer to what my Buckeyes n Rhode Island Reds lay. Egg shell thickness depends on how much calcium and grit they get. Thats what oyster shell mixed in their feed is for. The color of the yolk depends on what plants and veggies they eat and the level of fat in their diet. If I were to feed them avocado, the yolk would be darker yellow to orange. Same if you give them pumpkin and certain squashes and carrots. They ONLY get organic feed and they love wandering all over. Lol Our one *pardoned* turkey enjoys car rides to wawa. He gets crackers.

When you say fake. Do they not actually come from chickens? Or it’s just non healthy chickens?

What are we to do? I'm scared. Question to you: how do we spot a fake egg if it was cooked and we were served it at a restaurant? I'm really scared. I think I'm just ready to go to Heaven. What can we eat nowadays. I stopped with the seedless watermelon when I found out about that. And I stopped when I found out about cloned eggs. I'm scared.

test methods that are basic facts

*float test
fresh if sink
rotten if floating up

*spin test
well done if spins fast
fresh if spin slower

however today I discovered something different this time with the dozen eggs bought cheaply from Chinese shop

eggs are bigger and rounder (not normal)
shells easily crack and smaller pieces break off into the bowl
there's yellowish tinting in the fresh white when opened
the yolk easily burst
my homemade mayonnaise is yellowed (unlike before)
eggs crack so easily when boiled, loss of white into the water left the eggs misshapen, bubbles seen on the cooked white. when this happens, peeling is not as pliable

upon testing as above:
the eggs spun fast, but sunk to bottom of glass of water. can't understand it.

are these fake eggs I'm feeding my family with?
