The 10 Worst Ice Cream Failures

I just honestly think the reason Hershey's Reese's cups failed was because it was too pricy for most Filipino households and in comparison to other less expensive and filling desserts or snacks you can buy from a bakery or a sari-sari store it is simply not worth it to try something so expensive.

As a person with multiple food allergies, I cannot eat regular ice cream, which means I often get brands most people have never heard of. That said, the discontuned ice cream I miss the most is Almond Dreams Bites. These were small, bite-sized ice cream bites (obviously) that had different flavors of ice cream covered by a chocolate coating. It was my childhood ice cream, and it suddenly disappeared from all stores out of nowhere! Turns out, the parent company of the brand Almond/Rice Dream, Hain Celstial, discontiuned ALL of their dairy-free product lines in that company! Like...why?! It's a very popular market! Anyways I'm still mad about it because it was the best ice cream ever to me.

Taking a bite of that sweet Belgian chocolate filled with ice cream filling inside in Magnum ice cream feels satisfying to crave for. The Magnum Pistachio (despite not having pistachios) one reminds me of that Spongebob SquarePants scene where the kid cried over not putting pistachios on his ice cream, much to his father's annoyance.

I worked at dairy queen for 8 years and in all that time, I think our worst idea on the ice cream end was probably our canada day blizzard. It was pretty much our usual soft serve with a ice cram sandwich shoved into it. It looked really weird and I can't imagine what it tasted like. If I think of any others I'll let you know

On one hand Ben and Jerry had a weirdly high number of oopsies, on the other hand it's admirable how quick they went "Oh shit you right, we goofed, we shall rectify.".

I'm just wondering why they didn't call "Fossil Fuel" something like "Dino Dig" instead. That would have made way more sense, and fit right in with the likes of "Moose Tracks".

1:31 As an Argentine I can say that the Dulce de Leche is not fancy at all. It's as common as peanut butter in the US and it's impossible to find an ice cream or pastry shop that doesn't use it.
Also you didn't say it that bad, even though they spelled it wrong. It's "Churro con Dulce de Leche"

One ice cream I used to be obsessed with was Ben and Jerry's "Late Night Snack". It was inspired by "The Late Night Show", and it was vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup and pieces of chocolate-covered potato chips mixed in. I've not been able to find it for a long time, and I remain forever upset

I don't know if "worst" really describes most of these, since they seem more like temporary promotions that ran their natural course. Most of these brands are also owned by Unilever too (I was very disappointed when I visited the Ben and Jerry's factory a few years ago. The flavor graveyard was worth a visit though, and yes, I was a Wavy Gravy fan. Like Woodstock, it's one of those "you had to be there, man" things.)

Turkey Hill once had an ice cream flavor called, Movie Night. It was part of their Dynamic Duos line. It was part Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramel Swirl and half Popcorn flavored Ice Cream with Popcorn and Praline mixed throughout. I ad it a couple of times before it was discontinued. The Popcorn flavor was actually really good. Wish they'd bring it back.

The most unfortunate loss is that mint ice cream is extremely rare in the Philippines.
I live there and mint is one of my favourite flavours.

Okay funny story. The snickers peanut brownie ice cream bars were available in my stores earlier this year (2022) & I actually loved them. They honestly tasted heavenly to me, so when I saw that they suddenly disappeared from stores I was pretty confused. Watching this knowing that I could’ve developed cancer from eating it too often (i ate it often at the time) is an absolutely terrifying thought.
