This is the video I’ve been wanting for a long time. Love the educational piece and the options.

It’s amazing to me that “barbershop” scents are not mentioned on any of the top influencer channels, it’s mainly the typical Versace Eros/Spice Bomb/D&G, I bought Tom Ford Beau De Jour last week after testing it in the store, and I literally immediately put that in my top 3 of all time. Bought it on the spot. Expensive, but amazing. And I didn’t know why it isn’t being talked about more. Thank you for the video!

I watch all your videos and for me personally this is your best video because of how much you put into educating us and your quick history lessons you are a natural educator and I appreciate you, please do more videos in this style!

Pinaud Clubman is the quintessential barbershop fragrances. Pinaud was a highend French company back in the 1800s, and when they started selling fragrances in the U.S. they sold highend women's perfumes, but they also sold a line of fragrances to men inside of barbershops. Within a few years they dominated the barbershop market. In the 1940s they created Pinaud Clubman that was sold in barbershops, and once again it absolutely dominated. When people talked about the barbershop smell, _THIS_ was literally the fragrances they were talking about, and it continued to be the main fougere in barbershops for the next 30 or 40 years. It was an "aftershave" but it was (and still is) very strong. The stuff costs about $10 a bottle, so if you want to know what the original barbershop fougere smelled like then there is no excuse for not getting this fragrances. This is how Private Investigators like J.J. "Jake" Gittes, Paul Drake, Peter Gunn, Mannix, Baretta, and Jim Rockford smelled like, because this is how all men from the 1940s to the 1970s smelled --- if they weren't wearing Old Spice.

Awesome video. This style of commentary, with the quality of production, is what YouTube needs. Thanks for sharing

As usual Justin you've managed to peak my interest in some fragrances that no one else is discussing in the community. Great content 👍.

I was in a Kohls with a Sephora today, so I finally tried Beau de Jour on my skin and I love it so far. two hours in and I still love it. I have stayed away from Lavender and barbershop scents, but man does this take me back to the 80s in a good way.
There is something that my grandfather had that this reminds me of and it made me smile. wonder if it is Brut?

Love this style of video. Been a real treat to get a few of these lately. 👍🏻

For me, MFK Masculin Pluriel is THE modern fougere. Expensive, but I think it is the most mass appealing and modern take on this sort of scent. Zaharoff Signature is somewhat similar, but I still prefer Masculin Pluriel overall. 🙌🏻🔥

P.s. Sartorial is lovely too. Always love seeing that get a shoutout.

I love barbershop fragrances! Azzaro Pour Homme got me into it about two decades ago.

I enjoy everything barbershop fragrances! This is my favourite genre and the one that got me into this hobby since I wanted to replicate the memories of my father using the classics like Brut and Old Spice. This style of perfumery was the mainstream masculine type until the mid nineties with the last mainstream fougere being the Dolce & Gabbana pour homme. Then came the aquatics that put an end to the fougere reign. Great choices there Justin and very informative as always! Bracken man is in my wishlist but I heard it has been reformulated like most Amouages.

Recently started to get intrigued by fragrances. Your video is by far the best I’ve seen. You are informative, with some historical context, and you have a great voice and presentation. I hope you have lots of success with this channel and sharing your passion for fragrances.

Now THIS is very timely Justin! I'm on a bit of a roll in respect of barbershop scents with Penhaligon’s Sartorial and Nicolai New York Intense picked up in recent weeks. Both are wonderful!
