ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?

Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

As an Australian I’m so sick of this song as it’s been played everywhere since mid 2019 😂😂😂 but still love it none the less. Great reaction.

She was homeless living in her car and working at a clothing store which had buskers in front. she really wanted to busk and sing. So since she lived in Australia you have to audition to get a license to busk. She got the license a year later after she auditioned and applied, so she quit her job and would put out something for the money the passerby's would give her and play keyboard and sing. One night some drunk stole all her money and took off, then another drunk tried to play her keyboard. She decided to pack up and leave, but there was a drunken crowd surrounding he who would not let her go and were booing her to make her continue to play and sing. Out of her frustration from that night she wrote this song. Really it is "sing monkey" but she did not want to make it personal, so she changed it to "dance monkey". Note the part where she says "dance for me" several times which is the crowd forcing her to sing, but then said "when you are done i will make you do it all again" which is what they did.

She certainly has quite a unique voice. And she has the audience eating out of the palm of her hand.. Brilliant

The Marge Simpson impression made my day.

She’s **growling** like in jazz. A LOT of her voice seems inspired by Jazz music from like.. 50s America.
But brought to a modern style. It’s TRULY unique.

It still blows my mind that she sounds EXACTLY like the recording. That's a rare quality today with the era of autotuned divas

Fun fact: she was a street busker in the same town as this concert only six months before. She’s polarising but I think she’s bold and different.

What you miss I'd her crying in between her songs cause she was soooo grateful and blown away that she was even at this event only a couple months after being noticed. Biggest crowd to a first time performer at splendour

Rebecca, that "Don't go off stage, do it again! Do it again." was actually the reason why she wrote this song.

She was living in her van in Australia and busking, then everytime she performed crowds got bigger and bigger and then success, she is a sweet shy young woman and I love her I'm an Aussie 👍

She takes her vocals to places that most singers wouldn't even think about, that's what makes it unique, and she can sing quiet soft and sweet, but then comes across with burst that are quiet raucus .A great young singer who can match her recordings with a live performance .

I would love to see her and Sia do a duet.

She opened the festival that year. It was the biggest crowd they’ve ever had for the opening act.

She's so happy because it was one of her dreams to play at Splendour and she's admitted that she couldn't believe she actually was there

Yup, thats her voice, and it is fucking amazing how she appart from being and amazing performer, is able to sound as the studio versión effortless.

Only heard this song on the radio. Had a huge smile on my face the entire performance. Looks like she's loving it and having so much fun & the crowd feels the same. Why am I crying?

I thought it was really auto tuned and I was annoyed because of that, but then I realized when I saw it live, it wasn’t.
So, I felt more appreciation and am so crazed by her voice!!

edit: the fact that people got mad at this is funny, i now don’t really like the song considering it has been two years
i still think the fact that she can do that with her voice really cool thi

What I love most about that song is how cheerful and upbeat it sounds yet the lyrics are talking about an abusive industry that bleeds you dry then discards you.
