How to Fix the Dragon's Tears Quest in TOTK

The Dragon's Tears questline is so badly integrated into the game it made me rage quit and make a 20 minute video essay. What do you think of Nintendo handled integrating it in the game?

I feel like their reactions should me more drastic too. Like, if the princess of your kingdom turned into a literal dragon, you'd be bewildered too.

THIS BUGGED ME SO MUCH. Chasing after a Zelda I knew was fake was so frustrating! Even the Yiga Zelda fake side quest with Penn was annoying!

"ZELDA IS A DRAGON!!"
"Far out." 😐
"Wild." 😐

Or that impa swore link into secrecy, literally one line. "Oh link, zelda is the light dragon now? I need you to not tell anybody else, since the kingdom could not lose their princess a second time".

And that not every sage is asking "what is this mysterious voice? Link, do you have an idea?" "Nah. The other leaders had a sage talk to us but I don't know who this could be"

Nintendo really had them like: Damn bro that's crazy!

😂😂😂😂😂

That drove me crazy. My boyfriend had to listen to me yell at the TV "but thats not even the real zelda!!!!"

I’m definitely lucky for not knowing the “zelda” was fake until it was made abundantly obvious. I actually thought the other zeldas were real and it was just the goron one that was fake, the goron phenomena even being my last one before going to hyrule castle.
And I hadn’t even known that the geoglyphs were for memories until I just happened to put my sights on starting Impa’s quest, which was conveniently after checking out the forgotten temple for the mother statue side quest.
So yeah everything worked out surprisingly well.

I had a headcanon that Link knew it was a fake Zelda all along, but wasn't able to admit it. He knows she wouldn't be passive to the dangers and unease in the world if she was still around in any capacity.

In part, he was hoping that this other Zelda might be a manifestation of the parts she sacrificed, some lingering will. He could fix things if he could just catch her.

Mostly though, he was just terrified that she was really gone. The first time he has ever been truly, deeply, uncontrollably, terrified of anything, and he doesn't know how to process that. Because telling people other than Impa that she's gone makes it real.

The confrontation in the castle was partly one last, desperate, hope that he was wrong, that some part of her still exists. But it was also largely about confronting the truth he didn't want to admit, and even more in stopping Ganondorf from soiling her legacy.

Which was fun in its own way. Felt like a more solid and complex Link. But it's also kind of trying to pave over a weakness in the story.

Still my favourite Zelda game, and one of my favourite games overall.

My theory was that Link was too traumatized from finding out Zelda was a dragon to tell anyone else

Completing each regional phenomena only to have each sage slowly piece together 1/4 of the truth about Zelda each while I knew where and what she was really kinda hurt the story for me. Did they expect us to not complete the Dragon Tears until the end of the game?

What’s SO FRUSTRATING about this simple fix is that the game ALREADY HAS THIS VERY FUNCTION for certain things. Like when you finish a quest early without knowing and the quest npc has a alternative text like “oh sweet you already did the thing! Thanks” instead of skipping to the normal quest ending sentence. Idk why they didn’t use it for the main storyline text either, it makes it look sloppy/lazy/not thought thru.

I procrastinated the memories, so I had really compelling gameplay. I initially felt sus of Zelda in the regional phenomena quest, but it slowly built on itself. I began to question Zelda basically hypnotizing Yunobo, and then Riju flat out says "That isn't any Zelda I know." After this I began to peice things together, and it felt really great revealing the final story.

(Headcanon) I just imagine Link, who already struggles with vocalizing, just can’t bring himself to say it out loud

I kind of enjoy the feeling of having to sit with this knowledge throughout the game and believing that Zelda will be forever stuck like that and not being able to tell anyone. Although your solution would definitely be equally as enjoyable.

Totk could definitely do with a few more quests and areas. Post-game quest to cure Zelda. Sure it ruins the final moment, but the moment in general felt sort of cheap and unexplained. Maybe it was a dream, or the effect is temporary or something idk.

Quests involving the Sheikah ruins and moreover what happened to them. The carcasses of the Divine Beasts, having fulfilled their purposes, being host to monster gangs or Yiga, hiding some treasure. Maybe one fell into the Depths. More Sheikah (and please have anyone mention the champions other Mipha, hell have some quests to reclaim their weapons, i remember some had been removed).

I like to think Link doesn’t tell them to save face, for a lack of better words. “Hey the princess is now a dragon most people can’t see” sounds like Links gone mad

The ironic thing is I got the master sword after like two memories, finished a lot of the main quests and then got the rest. Although the stable quests were annoying afterwards. I did spend a solid few minutes apologizing to Zelda because I kept stepping on her eye and making fun of her for being bug-eyed lmao

This was my BIGGEST issue with the main quest
