If you are F2P don’t use Jades to refresh. There’s a limited number of Jades you can get and that’s hard capped. You get fuel to farm just by waiting. There’s also no guarantee for Relics, you can refresh stamina every day since launch and still have worse gear than someone that never refreshed and got lucky. MOC 1-8 isn’t hard, even if you can’t clear 9-10 yet, that’s just 120 Jades, each refresh costs 50 and gives you 1 and a half relic runs. Also, unless you really like a character, don’t bother with the weapon, this isn’t Genshin, your weapon doesn’t show up, it’s just stats and every character so far can clear MOC 10 without their weapon, yes, even Jing Yuan.

Based on my journey in genshin, all of this won't matter in a year or so bc ill be able to clear most of he content without much hassle. So for now i will focus on new characters that i like and find fun to play😊

I think this is advice for people who value content progression above all else. Personally I can’t bring myself to main characters I don’t like, or to use jades on stamina refreshes because then I won’t have enough to get what matters most to me - characters I like. (Not to mention my relic luck is so bad it would be like flushing jades down the toilet 😂)

I skipped Seele and Silverwolf even though I knew they were op, because I didn’t like them and I know if I had pulled for them and skipped the characters I wanted I probably would not still be playing the game. Now that I have the characters I wanted, my focus will be on making them stronger with better relics, synergistic teammates, and (when reruns start) with their lightcones and eidolons. This may be slower, but I’m definitely having more fun than I would the other way around. And although it frustrates me that I can’t 3-star floors 9 and 10 of MoC yet, I’m kind of having fun coming up with different team comps to try and beat them, and all I’m really missing out on is less than a single pull of jades 🤷🏻‍♀️

You're making a big assumption that people play this game to get to endgame as fast as possible. I can assure you that maybe only 5% off the playerbase will want to do this. Most f2p will just progress more slowly than spenders and that's it. Rather than spamming trailblaze power, you forgot the better advice of making sure to do the events and minigames as those are super generous with not only jades but also materials.

I think what f2p need to hear is: don't worry too much about being optimal. Play what is *fun*.

I would never recommend ever using jade for anything other than pulls. why use a limited currency on something you WILL obtain eventually (good relics) Its not a race to win the game, play for fun. you will get good relics and mats over time.

Refreshing stamina for relics wont matter if u play long enough, thats just how the artifacts system works. If you're patient enough and just use free stamina everyday u'll eventually have relics as good as someone who max refreshes. So dont make mistake of building multiple chars early on and just focuse on some core chars before moving on to the next one

The problem with these "advices" is that they are meant to impose one way of thinking on others. This is a game and people find enjoyment in different ways with them, sure you might enjoy min-maxing the shit out your account, others might enjoy just reading through the story and playing casually but at the end of the day no experience or approach is wrong because each approach is the product of the individual their choices and their desitions.

Telling people to wait for reruns of a character is a terrible advice overall, we learn of upcoming characters almost a month and a half to 2 months before they are released through their official social media pages, we learn of their kits a week or two before they get released and each banner last for 21 days, meaning that people have more than enough time to make an informed desition before deciding to pull, if they choose to ignore all this and pull day 1 blind that's on them, but the information is officially there.

I understand the idea behind telling people "Hey resource management is important so you should try to keep the pool of characters you raise low while you are starting up". But saying that your experience can be replicated is a fallacy, the game is filled with RNG like every gacha and rpg ever made so things will never be the same for two people.

As f2p I'll never use premium currency to refresh stamina though.
Gacha is such a fun aspect and you'll get so many fuels over time anyway.

I still have like 50 fuels sitting there

The most exciting part of the game for most people is saving the resources to pull a cool character so I recommend saving jades.

i actually do opposite, i collecting characters, prioritize my favorite characters, ignoring lightcone banners, trying to have many good characters over quality of their artifacts. To me it's more fun than playing a single team and a set of characters month after month. I don't have good artifacts as Lily but it's still enough for me to 30 stars clear MoC so it's fine.

DISCLAIMER: i skimmed through this vid before writing this (not bc the vid's bad in any way, i just generally skim explanation vids and grab the bits of info helpful for myself), so if there's anything in here already countered/disproven/analyzed, i apologize in advance.
Imo your standpoint is a bit on the radical side (not in a bad way). Your argument is fully valid: there's no need to instabuy new characters, them being flashy is a marketing strat to make you buy them, and you can wait for reruns to see where event char stand in the meta; thus, you should rather spend jade on stamina to perfect the characters you have to manage all the content, including MoC 10. From an efficiency standpoint, these are great arguments, and makes me agree that you're truly putting out your vids with helping F2P players in mind. Great video as always.
I say its a bit radical bc it gives a bit of a hardcore fan vibe (which, before anything, is a fully valid standpoint to be in). I think of multiple aspects which are either devalued or omitted that way:
-pulling for looks is not punished in this game for the most part. The game's main story and all side/endgame content up to MoC 5 are on a difficulty level set so low that you can do them with subpar gear and/or going all-in on one character and use him/her for everything. You can argue wether or not its another marketing strat to support a whaler's decision - the fact remains that there is barely any content which requires 2 fully optimized teams at the moment (namely MoC 6-10 and the last two difficulties of the Swarm). There is little forcing you to already have a fully optimized setup (namely 300 jade from MoC 6-10 every 2 weeks, the swarm rewards stay up to grabs forever if i saw correctly), buying into new chars is not as drastic as i got the impression of in this vid.
-time is on your side. Buying into stamina does accelerate your progress by a lot, that is true. But as mentioned before, there is few incentives to "be done" with everything within a period of time. Every character is capped at lv 80, you can only invest into so many trace mats before you max LC and traces out, and then its just a daily grind to get _the_ gear best for your chars. Again, the most optimized gear helps with high MoC, and if you are someone who values the satisfaction from "beating the game", you do you (I'm fully enjoying seeing ppl crush MoC 10). But if we exclude ppl who, as you say, "pull at every banner" aka whales (who at that point prob also are financially stable enough to purchase and endless supply of stamina), there really isn't much harm done with "buying who you like". The average player cant afford more than a few banners per year even if he wanted, and in the downtime between the characters you grab, you have enough time to get those characters strong enough to slot into your team. Of course, this depends on how long you see yourself playing this game, so you decide wether you need to catch up or not, but being fully efficient with your time is not a requirement to enjoy the game.

This text gets rather long at this point, so i skip the other points of hoyoverse' "market strats" being natural without necessarily having manipulative intent and rushing all content possibly leading to burnout and starving for content. I summarize what irked me in this video: being fully efficient with your resources is an option, but not _the_ option, even for f2p. You're not barred from most of the game if you pull for other reasons than the char being meta, and the game being live-service, you are never "done" with the game anyway. I really enjoy the videos you put up, it helped me invest into two 4* chars i wouldnt have touched otherwise (asta and sushang), but i just couldnt help but feel this video being too one-sided a perspective (especially the end bit saying pulling for characters is a mistake, which was the strongest thing giving me the hardcore impression i mentioned), even if the flipside is already covered by most other HSR streamers/content creators.

If you were already planning to make a counter-video discussing these things (similar to how you discuss both sides on pulling a certain character), i am truly sorry (/.\)

I used 50 fuel on the ice and wind set for example and my pieces are still pretty mediocre. My yanqing only got 2 somewhat okay pieces which were an upgrade, but for 3000 tbp? Genuinely felt like garbage afterward. My (regular) dan heng only got 1 even usable piece from that as well which didn't help

Meanwhile some content creators or just random people seem to be getting broken pieces every other day without spending any jades or fuel seemingly. It's a gamble

It wasn't until extremely recently in genshin that I actually started getting amazing emblem pieces and I farmed that domain almost exclusively since 2.0 launched

I believe everyone wants to have fun in their own way. And I genuinely believe even if it takes longer to grind out in the end, just using pulls on banners will lead to the most fun for the most people

Star rail *will* reach a point where, just like in genshin, we have continous reruns of characters you don't want. You skip anywhere from 3 - 5 full patches which sounds insane but happens to many people in other gachas and specifically genshin as stated before. And in those periods are generally where you make loads of progress on your current characters

If you choose to spend jades farming relics, you are still gambling one way or another. And that's the main reason I'd just recommend jades on a banner

so as a viewer that has watched your content since FGO i agree alot with your perspective and appreciate you dunking on content. My only criticism is how the livestream with all the content creators whats displayed - feel it was taken out of context . i watched that stream and it was a very very wholesome discussion, tectone even apologized because he felt bad for any one that wanted to see their piece- i have grown alot of respect for him since he has started his F2P path and how he has brought big and small CC's together, this never happened with genshin


I think alot of people have their perspective respectfully and should feel free to speak of how they play the game, and players make resonate with some more than others, i actually refuse to watch future character content to avoid FOMO i just dont want that temptation. I have a hard time agreeing with spending jades for fuel, thats like spending SQ for AP, to use premium currency to farm with RNG against you is not efficient playing, and especially for newer players who start the game they should start saving those resources until a character that fits their playstyle hits the banner

While I definitely agree with some points, it can also be fun to get the shiny new characters. I won’t lie, I currently survive off of luocha and I’m so glad I pulled for him. I don’t have gepard and while March and mc preservation is good, it would be really hard for me to play without him. While I definitely don’t think you need to pull for all characters, in fact you really shouldn’t, some characters are just really good. Something fun though is that you can use the support system if you don’t manage to get a character you want and still get to experience the nuance of the character. It can tell you if they would fit well in your team or not. That said, if you’ve saved enough and you really like the character (I started the game because Dan Heng, so I didn’t want to miss his banner) and I skipped multiple banners to save for him. So I think there can be a balance.

Yeah.. This is bad advice, especially for newcomers. As a F2P, spending your jades on 5 star banners will do a lot more to your account than buying refreshes and LC trying to build 4 star characters. What you're advocating for here isn't a "normal" F2P experience, but more a 4 star only run. Just build 8 good characters, it isn't really that hard.

i think what people dont understand is you can also save for a weapon just like how you save for a character. (higher chance too, 75%)
Ive seen someone got bashed for using JY's S1 weapon(1 copy) when its a choice on what to pull.
