One delay rule TO RULE THEM ALL #guitar

When using a rhythmic delay, I like the repeats to poke out between the notes I'm playing, so I have a rule of thumb: if the delay is dotted (such as a dotted 8th delay), then I play straight 8ths. That way the dotted repeats stick out between the straight 8th notes I play. If the delay is straight 8ths, I play dotted 8ths for the same reason. You can take the same part and change it from one to the other for a VERY different sound.

This is a perfect demonstration Justin! I’ve noticed in myself I tend to overplay when using delay and end up playing both the original and the delay parts. Lol

I have no idea what you're talking about but it sounded good.

Now I want to hear "full song" versions of each style. They sound Fantastic.

Awesome! I don't use them very often because I struggled with how to not screw up delay...

That little flutter at the end after you stopped is a sick tone 🤘

This is rad. Big brain concept. But so simple.

This was great! Practical effective idea from an expert expressed clearly and cogently. What’s not to like?

Simple to you but THAT is impressive to me.

Simple rule of thumb for something many of us have had a hard time comprehending.

They key here is that with these settings you are working with the space. This allows you to have less volume on your delay pedal and actually hear everything clearly. The space is your friend. Fill it, or don’t! But definitely use it

Nice tip! Can you share how you setup your slap delay? How many ms, is it song tempo based? Your last vid has some sweet sounding slap back

any tips for how to set your delay pedal? (I have a behringer if that matters)

Secret sauce revealed.
But what about setting the delay off meter deliberately? Like 6 bpm too fast on a straight 8 delay, just to mess with the drummer. Lol

I had never heard of flamming before but I probably do it quite a bit 😏

2 techniques amongst many. More delay just means more thought into what you play
