The word “sample” has many different meanings, depending on who you talk to. A sample could be a simple cycle of a waveform, the sound of a kick drum, or a full measure of a groove. Samples can also refer to the powerful and controversial method of extracting fully produced sections of songs and repurposing them in new works. In this video, Loudon Stearns unwraps these different definitions and their importance for today’s music producer.

About Loudon Stearns:
Loudon is an associate professor at Berklee College of Music, a course author and instructor at Berklee Online, and an active media-artist. Within the Contemporary Writing and Production department at Berklee College of Music he prepares students to work as independent composers and producers in a technology-laden music industry. So I may be completely off but I searched this cuz an artist under their “Official songs” has listed the Title and then (sampled Title 2). So does that mean the artist picked a section of Title 2 and used it within their own?
