“We’ll judge different races based on different standards because we don’t think minorities could meet everyone else’s standards in order to fight racism” DEI in a nutshell

They bill affirmative action as a student with 1390 SAT getting in over a rich student with 1400 SAT. In reality, affirmative action is a black student with 1150 SAT getting in over an Asian student with a 1460 SAT.

In project management, the first thing you learn is that you can prioritize for one of three things: scope, budget, or time... You cannot prioritize all three. It doesn't make sense.

I saw the title and just started smiling because it's obvious

Strange how things like quality, service and safety standards have dropped markedly since Diversity Inclusion Equity hit society.

Either:
It's ok to select people based upon immutable characteristics,
or
It's not.

I was denied a doctor in Canada for not being queer. Not a single person cares.

Treat others as good as you can, at first, then treat them how they treat you. Imagine disallowing queers doctors for being queer: that would be justice.

My daughters school removed standards years ago and after actively seeking minority students, half the new students were minorities. The majority of these minorities have flunked out and the class sizes for these class years are at record lows, plus the % of kids who graduate has plummeted, damaging the credibility of the school. Since the minorities took spots of qualified people who could pass, the school is now in financial trouble and had a round of layoffs this past Friday, the CEO has been replaced, the recruiter has been replaced and we will see what they do to turn things around...

It's worse when you have ADHD. If a potential employer finds that out, they can respond one of two ways:

1) They don't see your creativity or out-of-the box thinking. They don't see that you're cool and calm in a crisis. They don't see that you commit yourself 100% to a passion or project. They don't see the 40 hours of work you can get done in 8 hours. All they see is that you can be distracted, you struggle with motivation when you work alone, you're prone to insomnia, and they assume you'll bounce off the walls all day. So they refuse to hire you or let you move up in the company.

2) They don't want to look like the bad guy for not hiring you, so they stick you in a position you're not qualified for or happy with, and they offer you zero support.

Pro tip: Don't disclose your ADHD until you've settled into the job and are past your probationary period. And only bring it up if it's absolutely necessary.

0:45 This is similar to my experience of being rejected from my middle school’s STEM-type club in 1989. My friends were in the club, and they told me how great it was and urged me to sign up. None of us could understand why I wasn’t allowed to join. The administrator wouldn’t outright say it.

if the best candidate got the job there's a decent chance someone higher up might get replaced....

If these "marginalized" people can get in on merit alone, their system would be merit based.

Reminds me of school and how when I was new to my medical condition that took tons of work to manage ordinary situations but then there were students who basically identified as having mental issues with stress and they could get special permissions for getting more time on tests, take tests in different rooms, and get different deadlines. Even before I had physical issues, I navigated anxiety on my own--never occurred to me to get special permissions. Heck, saw plenty of people who milked that without even a pretense of mental issues, so I didn't see the permissions as a legit route.
