I literally dropped in on Kelly Slater at Tables by Patrick AFB about 20 years ago (this was right after he went to the bald look). Didn't know who it was of course and he was down the line so I thought it was fine. I felt so bad when I turned around and he was right there. I said hey I'm really sorry about that and he was like, it's cool, there's plenty of water for both of us. I introduced myself and he said nice to meet you I'm Kelly. I eyes mist have gotten as big as saucers because he just started laughing. He was seriously cool about the whole thing.

That's Betet Merta and Kelly at Padang Padang. That isn't some random local. Betet is the man and he could have any wave he wants out there, and most importantly, he is known to Kelly.

Kelly is also friends with Rizal and the two of them were actively trying to get barreled together as well at Padang. It wouldn't surprise me if Kelly and the locals were trying to coordinate a double barrel.

This is a great comparison between a very good local surfer and a world champion surfer. Slater is just solid as a rock with his shoulders square to the direction of travel. The local not so much at first but does get it together for the barrel. Cool to watch for sure.
