Hello everyone!
My name is Serge. I was born in the USSR, but many years I have been living in the Land of the Rising Sun. I started Shorinji Kempo 6 years ago. I guess I was just lucky – my neighbor turned out to be a 3-Dan Sensei. I found out about it a year later, and then completely by accident. Once, while skiing with her husband, I asked why his wife, who looks very athletic, does not share his passion for skiing? I received a stunning answer: She is a Shorinji Kempo Sensei. Wow! I've heard a lot about this Japanese martial art in my time, and ... What happened is what happened! I came to watch a real training session and within a month I became a kenshi, full member of the community.

This is some of the cleanest & most useful sparring I've seen in a while, a pleasure to watch.

They're really going for it!
Thank you for sharing.

Good sparring! It's interesting that these two mostly went with punches. There were a few front kick/straight punch attacks that worked well.

This martial art is a mix of Shaolin martial arts and two Jujutsu styles: Hakkō-ryū and Fusen-ryū. Fusen-ryū defeated Judo back in the late 1800’s. And was the style that brought ne-waza (ground fighting), back on the map. And it helped influence many martial arts today.

Some nice counters. Those helmets do provide massive targets, though.

Hi,
I love the art, I practiced it for 3 years having previously some background in Japanese jujitsu and karate 6 years. However, I did quit and moved onto Soeno Shidokan karate which I found more realistic for self defense as it is a blend of grappling kyokushin karate and muaythai.
Shorinjikempo is an absolute refinement especially the Juho techniques however really impractical for everyday self defense.
I'm speaking from my personal experience where I got mugged in the street my jujitsu skills enabled me to counter the attack and escape.
Another example why the core curriculum of shorinjikempo uses ichi gamae as the traditional stance instead of a more practical guard which could be used to defend against a jab or a hook?
Maybe I'm ignorant, thank you for sharing anyway.

This is far more useful and safer than Kyokushin.

I'm looking at the foot work and thinking about how I (myself) could do better. Obviously, in such a situation certain trained / muscle memory things go out the window.

Hanya tukar pukulan saja, tidak ada teknik menangkis dan serangan tendangan kombinasi yang baik
