Founded in Japan in 1947 by Doshin So. Shorinji Kempo is a way of developing individuals. It is a unique combination of philosophy, mastery of techniques and education system. Through "philosophy", students are taught how tu nurture their own body and mind, help each other and live happily together. "Mastery of techniques" enables students to enjoy advancement and growth of themselves and their partners. "Education system" combines this learning and mastery of techniques into an effective, mutually reinforcing spiral.

I am going to take a test on Shorinji Kempo for black belt tomorrow! If I pass, I am going to be the youngest black belt in all of my sensei’s years of teaching and trust me when I say he has been teaching for around 20 years.Wish me luck!

Nice! I like how they're taught to finish a downed enemy, this might actually be of some use in a real fight.

When I was in Japan I trained with some people who did Shorinji Kempo. I'm used to taekwondo so it was an interesting experience. When I go back to Japan I plan on training under it again.

Saudades grande mestre e homem, Minoru Masu,

Despite the advancement and popularity of MMA style fighting today, there is no doubt that the basis for excellent control in fighting is still firmly rooted in traditional martial arts... a foundation that builds better fighters with control than most who just go straight to MMA/Gracie Jujitsu alone. Failing to understand the the full benefits of discipline of technique, failing to understand the importance of controlled emotion, and failing to appreciate the value of the tradition of martial arts; only from youth to adulthood can a martial arts practitioner develop the skill and technique necessary to become a better master of MMA fighting style. Yes, we see a lot of 'McDojo's' and fake martial arts 'masters, ' but it is important to also realize that the most respected Dojo's have produced some of the best fighters in the world today. There is still value in traditional Kempo, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, and Aikido, etc., among other forms, but it is the practitioner who has to master the art by applying it in real-world scenarios; only to realize the weaknesses of the art, then to improve it. Most of these arts are effectives against a non-initiated martial artists, but only when challenged by another well-trained martial artist do we learn of our weaknesses, and this is where we learn that real-world martial arts no longer is competing just against the uninitiated, but by others who have mastered MMA style fighting. A real martial artist uses his discipline to challenge him or herself against other martial artists' styles; it is here we begin to see where are technique is strong and weak, and recognize where we need to improve it. But it is in the tradition of training from a young age that helps to build discipline that is needed to make advancements in traditional martial arts to become the next leading style that is proven effective; not just against a single opponent from the same style, but to further advance it to make it effective against multiple opponents from all styles; regardless their training, style, and technique. Martial arts is a process of evolution; first founded on traditional martial arts, then with years of training, we begin to evolve it and make it more effective form; a personal form that transcends the tradition toward advancement and improvement... a hybrid of the most effective techniques from today's traditional martial arts.

I love how everyone sits expressionless, hardly moving. Surely there are proud parents in the audience yet they simply watch. I'm not condemning or condoning, just musing publicly.
