Ah yes, the American way, charging the line with your M1, equipped with an M1. Under support from the M1 and the M1, with fellow infantry support that had M1's

Americans: we won't use the metric system.
Brits: That's ok. Imperial is the system we use. Why don't you make a copy of our new anti-tank gun?
Americans: What caliber is it?
Brits: What calibre? It's a 6-pounder.
Americans: Oh, FFS.

It's the barrel length that did it. The Mk IV was an L/50 barrel and the shell had enough propellent that the barrel wasn't a waste.
The larger calibres lose "performance" less quickly than the smaller ones, for an equivalent barrel length.

Any war thunder British mains will know the power of the sarc 6 pounder, Churchill and crusader 3, and Cromwell 1 for the 57mm

Yep a small fast mover round can penetrate armor like a hot knife through butter if designed to pierce armor.

57mm is a beast and that's why I loved it in WT.

Velocity in the kinetic equation is squared, meaning you get more bang for your buck by increasing it compared to mass.

It's amazing that it only weighs 6 lbs, it looks heavier

I don't know realisticly but in men of war that thing were pretty effective against enemy tank at close to medium range

the long barrelled 50mm of late panzer IIIs had similar effects, punched much harder than you would expect from the calibre.

Lighter yet just as effective. Thats a win win

at close range, it was a beast. small shells with 115mm of pen, allows for penetration of most tanks even later on in the war. And the crew could reload it lightning fast compared to most other AT guns.

It was also solid shot, meaning the shell had less shatter risks than hollowed out APHE shells.

Compact, relatively light, easier to move, easier to conceal: sounds like a useful tool against the enemy

The German equivalent would be Pak 40 anti tank gun not the 88mm flak.

The 17lber APDS projectile was simply a 6lber projectile in a discarding aluminum sabot

Velocity is more important in terms of muzzle energy than grain weight. This is fact and the curve proves this.
