IWC re-invented this Dive Bezel

This is the IWC AquaTimer Automatic Diver Watch. It is a 42mm stainless steel diver with 300m water resistance and a 5-Day Power Reserve. The most interesting detail to me here is the Dive Bezel and how unique it is in the landscape of diver watches.

I’ve got the black one and it’s a great watch. Soon as I tried one on in person I was sold.

I love it. I dread to think of the cost. But I love it.

That AP offshore diver is insanely stunning

That means you can use it as a rachet as well, to reach the desired amount of turn. 😍

I find inner rotating dive watch bezel to be facinating in how it can keep its WR? The AP have a screw down crown but the JLC doesn't and I assume this IWC outer bezel engaging the inner bezel can be operated underwater so how can it keep the water out? Since this is possible, I hope Breitling is able to come up with a Navitimer with 100m WR.

I use it time the young ladiea who dive under my desk. It's a measure of performance.

Timing is everything.

So, what's the other crown used for???🤔

I’m sorry, but I’m going to disagree with most of the other comments here. This is a perfect example of over-engineering. It’s still just a unidirectional bezel that’s operated by twisting the bezel itself. Except in this case it looks like the bezel is particularly slippery and smooth. I can see notches on the outside, but this looks less functional than a typical bezel. My conclusion is that it’s nothing more than a gimmick. Plus, they will probably charge you more for this, which just doesn’t make sense to me since it’s not more functional. The watches with crown-operated bezels makes sense since they function to truly secure the bezel, but not this.

This is the worst of both worlds. It used twice as much space. You have the timing on the inside and an empty bezel on the outside, why? There’s a reason why the standard dive bezel is so genius. Don’t try and reinvent the wheel for no reason

I get how this is better than using a tiny crown to rotate the bezel, but how is this any better than a standard bezel with the numbers on it, like a Rolex sub?

i think iwc need to re-engineered this aquatimer. this model is a bit too thick.

This is clever, but 42mm is too big for me

It is best for the diving mechanism to be on an outer bezel to keep the watch as sealed as possible. The IWC method is the most open to sealing faults, I don't find it correct for diving at all. The design is debatable.

I think it’s 2mm too big in every dimension

Scores a few points for coolness-factor (fidgeters rejoice!), but neutral on the necessity scale, and way-the-Hades out of my budget.

It's time to go down with prices, 600 $ enough for this
