I have a Patek Phillipe gold pocket watch my grandfather left me. I had no idea the significance of it until years later. It was damaged and I could not afford to have it repaired until recently and so I took it to a watch repair place and the guy's hands started shaking when I handed it to him. He then explained what I had in my hand. I had to sit down. I had previously grumbled about my grandfather leaving all my cousins expensive items and all he left me was a broken watch. Turns out I got the nicest gift of the lot. I had no idea that watches could tell you the day of the week, the phases of the moon or could act like a stop watch before all that could be done with a digital watch. I also didn't know the really old ones were wound with a key and that was what was at the other end of the watch chain. And don't get me started on that fob. Lucky me it's got my birthstone in the middle of it and I had no idea they came that big. Thanks Grandpa RIP.
