I used to work an italian bread stand at a farmer's market. Every week an old German man would come and buy a cake but NEVER any of our bread which ge regarded with disdain. One week he recounted to me a recent trip he had made to his homeland in the following terms: "I had to go back to Germany because my father had a stroke, anyway I ate some very good bread while I was there".
