At first I didn’t understand why in the first equation you could substitute males for females. But then I saw the initial ratio and suddenly it made sense!

If the ratio if 6:5, then the total number of people must be divisible by 11. And of these options, only 36 is 8 less than a multiple of 11.

4:5 then it becomes 6:5 just by solely adding 8, 8 people is equal to 2 (ratio), 4 = 1 ( ratio), (4+5)(4) = 36

The ratio increases by 2 but the actual increase is 8. So everything here has a factor of 4. Thus total number= 4(4+5)= 36

can i ask a question: what is the level of question in your country? I mean the level is kinda primary school or high school? cuz we learn this at the 2th grade in turkey 😞
