League of Legends has been the most played game in the world for a long time. However that does not mean that everyone who play's video games plays League. Especially Japan. Because Japan couldn't give a single Teemo about League of Legends.
So in this video we find out why Japan doesn't play League of Legends and what right Riot Games is doing to change that.

I'm Japanese myself... and yeah, not only league of legends, the number of players in the whole gaming scene on a computer seems to be a lot lower than consoles in general. As somebody else has mentioned in the comment section, mobile games are just soooo huge here. You can literally ask any Japanese person if they play any mobile game and 90% of the time they'd say "Yes". And also - there are a lot of people (I mean, literally, a lot of people right now) who play fortnite in Japan, but they play fortnite on consoles, and it seems that a nintendo switch is a popular console to play fortnite on. There's a really simple logic behind it actually, people don't like to invest a ton of money on a gaming PC, but rather spend their money on something cheaper, so they choose to play games on consoles/mobiles.

im japanese and almost japanese people play only mobile games, For example Monster Strike, knives out...etc
Then I am PC gamer but I dont declare to my friends that im PC gamer. Its because japanese has bad impression to PC gamers.
If anyone is playing PC game, he or she is thought as person who doesn't have good real life....
japanese worry so much about the reputation, so I think the number of PCgamers of JP wont increase
Im not good at English, so there may be some grammar mistakes . sorry guys.

I'm a Japanese playing games on PC. I almost always play on America server on any game that I play, since most of my friends here play on console or just on mobile. As a result, I learned how to chat in English. Thank you world for being 10000 times better than my school English teacher.

It's simple i don't even need to watch the video cuz i lived in Japan, they don't play games in computers, simple as that. For japanese culture a computer is a work station ONLY, so they only play game in consoles, in fact pocket consoles such as 3DS and PSVita are more popular than table consoles such as PS4, that's why Nintendo came up with the Switch taking both table and pocket playerbase in Japan.

Based Japan, instead of complaining all day that league is bad they just decided to never play it at all.

Bless Japan for not knowing such a toxic and tilt-inducing game.

Japan doesn't dislike League of Legends. They just don't play pc games at all, really have nothing to do with the game itself.

I'm a French league player living in Japan for 15 years so I know a bit about the subject.

First I don't think that there are more than 20% non Japanese players on JP server but I agree this is quite noticeable. Also, about @7:06 "iyaaa", means something like "no", but in a less direct way.

I work near Akihabara which is featured a lot in your video and there is no doubt PC gaming is growing seeing how many PC gaming shops have appeared.

But I think the biggest factor here for PC gaming being small is the lack of space to play on a desk with a keyboard and a mouse. They often don't even have a chair in small 1-room apartments for students or young singles, so they are more used to sit on a couch or on the floor or on their futon while playing with a game controller on their tv and console.

But since they don't have much time neither and spent a lot of time in trains commuting to their work or school, they probably spend more time on mobile games. Before smartphones were a thing, they already had a huge percentage of console players playing on mobile consoles compared to other regions in the world.

I currently live in Japan. I agree that LoL didn't have enough promotions but I disagree with the video. In Japan many people work long hours and many people don't have a gaming computer. People who can play League quit the game because of toxic players. I have a sub account in JP server but I moved my main account to NA because the experience I gain is better and fun there. I don't know who gave you this information but my experience in Japan is quite different.

Honestly, LoL doesn't really fit the JP demographic.

Most of the more popular games are single-player games, or games that emphasize co-op and tend to be console or handheld based. You can see it in Japanese vs Korean MMOs. Korean MMOs tend to promote PvP as the key element, where as sometimes PvP is just not even a thing in Japanese MMOs.

The biggest selling game in Japan this year is MHW, selling over 3x more units than the runner-up, Splatoon (according to Famitsu).

League hits none of these points. I feel like anyone who did even the slightest amount of marketing research would see this.
