The Absent State: How do we cope with economic inequality and the decline of social security?

Public responsibility for providing the minimal provisions for a good life is diminishing in many places around the world. The safety net of the welfare state is being withdrawn in many societies, and is absent in others. In this project, BredaPhoto and the World Press Photo Foundation will commission five photographers from five continents to tell the story of social security in their societies.
