Every time I try to eat only lean meat I end with: overeating, lowered energy, sugar cravings (not tons, a little, but it signals a disconfort after the meal), constipation. Also I suspect I even gain weight. For me, lean meat is a kind of refined food from this era of fat scaring. Even a chicken would be eaten with internal organs (first) and fatty skin. When I eat very fatty cuts of red meat: 1. I eat much less, 2. Don't feel the need of added fats, 3. My energy goes veeeery up and 4. Sugar cravings disappear. Organ meat are a separate thing, they are lean but very nutrient dense. I can easily see now after 1.5 year of experimentation that organ meats plus fatty cuts is my zen. Lean meat goes well with the high carb regimen, as the gym's broscience already suggests. But high fat is a miracle for sport, endurance is incredible on that. You can go daylong biking on mountains without food if enough satur. fats were eaten. No doubt fats are our best energy source.

Fat just tastes better and I don’t think that’s a mistake. I think it indicates that we evolved to prefer the fattier parts of an animal. I know the crispy fat on the edge of a steak makes my mouth water and i think no one would deny the the addictive flavour of bacon, hell even the vegans are trying to copy it as best they can.

I've been eating bacon and eggs for breakfast everyday last 6 months, I prefer the fatty bacon to the short cuts. If I switch to oats, I immediately notice my guts get gassy and bloated.

I feel best on 70-80% fat, 25-30% protein, 0-5% carbs. raw grass fed ribeye + raw bone marrow

Fat is more satisfying for me so bacon and ribeyes are perfect.

Carnivore 14 mos. Stopped losing after 5-6 months when I started weight training. Everyone said I wasn’t getting enough fat. So I consumed way more fat. This video makes so much sense to me. Thank you. Gonna try to lean it up.

If you are in ketosis and stalled in weight loss, just cut down on how much fat you are eating, so your body is burning it's own fat and not just what youre eating. Once you get to your goal, then by all means ramp up the fat. It's delicious.

I'm not hungry when I eat beef, I want to snack if I eat pork or chicken or seafood. It doesn't fill me up.

I'd rather have fatty meats it satiates me and I feel great.

I think it’s different for women. Especially if you’re over 40. If you’re eating too much fat, at least in my case, my body was just burning dietary fat and not fat that was already on my body so I had to keep a close eye on how many grams of fat I was eating each day otherwise the weight would not come off. If you have insulin resistance it makes it even harder to lose weight so you have to watch you’re fat intake for awhile, at least until you get to your goal weight.

I tested it out for myself. High fat works best for me. However, if I do a heavy workout with weights, then I need to raise my protein.

I love this diet, as a woman I eat mod protein and fat and I’m dropping weight like crazy. Been carnivore since End of Jan 2018 - I occasionally eat some berries and cucumber, avo and dairy for fun with no weight loss until about Jan of this year... but slow and steady wins the marathon and I’ve seen nothing but steady weight loss as I’ve upped my animal fats and lowered my protein to about 70-85 grams a day. It’s all about N=1 and I do not eat crap tons of strange fat. I eat raw butter, raw cheese sometimes, eggs? Ground beef, other cuts of beef, salmon roe, pork belly, bacon, sardines, liver, cod liver and calf liver pate. Thank you for your knowledge! You’ve changed my life!!!

I ate about 70 to 75% fat, got down to about 8% body fat, and maintained that for over a year.

Fat doesn't make you fat.

I must admit I was finding Shawn Baker bit extreme about carnivore in the past, but this video is sooo good, balanced from multiple standpoints.

On carnivore, you have one side saying higher protein is better, especially for fat loss. It forces your body to use more of its own fat instead of a majority from diet for energy. High protein could kick you out of ketosis tho, as the body will convert excess protein to glucose if files is needed and sufficient fat is not present. Not to mention more insulin response from protein than fat.
The higher fat side makes more sense to me as hard stools and chapped lips from a higher protein to fat ratio are a sign of fat deficiency. I also feel better on higher fat, and you need less protein on high fat cus protein gets assimilated easier with a lot of quality fat in the mix. Higher fat is also better for optimal hormone functions.

I realized I swapped out carbs for fat, was leaning too heavily on fats vs what GI could ingest and what body needed. I hit a plateau. Recently added IF to mix and was eating less by default so I let it ride - bacon, cheese didnt make it on grocery list as much. Instead of 2 ribeyes a day, ended up needing 1. Its a good strategy to stay open minded and be able to adjust when you plateau-may take a few strategies to get to goal

Shawn's right. You don't have to look far to find plenty of examples of success with both high- & low-fat approaches.
