Honda Killed The Manual For THIS?! | 2025 Civic Hybrid

This is the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring Hatchback! Honda has replaced the hatchback's 6-speed manual and 1.5L Turbocharged inline 4 engine with a 2-motor hybrid system making 200 HP and 232 lb-ft of torque. That's more torque than a Civic SI! But could it be a replacement?

I'm 62 and this car is the best fun I've had in years. In the past I've owned a manual BMW 2002 and two manual Acura Integras. Yeah, manual transmissions give you something to play with in traffic, but putting both feet to the floor while waiting to do a standing start against the kid in the Mustang at the stop light is FUN! I love that doing a two foot start disables all the fake shifting noise and fake torque stutter and gives you flat out acceleration. The sport touring is a fantastic putter around town car for an old fart like me. I've got the Urban Gray Pearl.

I have a hybrid for my daily.

It is a wonderful car for daily traffic filled driving. It is also wonderful because of the technology. I don’t know how long it’ll last but I’ll do my best to keep it maintained. That is in hopes it’ll give me 10+ years and 300, 000 miles of service.

*I think the 2026 Honda Prelude will have almost the same power maybe a little more but with all wheel drive and new S button mode, can't wait specially after being a long time 1997 Honda Prelude owner*

I freaking LOVE this car. Got this in urban grey pearl only because I couldn't find one in that beautiful boost blue.

Those Roads look like so much fun to ride. 2025 Civic Sport Hybrid Sedan owner, not even 300 miles yet and I can tell you this car is fun to drive. Happy New Year to all!

I like the fact that it doesn't look like a hybrid. I'd debadge it immediately.

I just hit 600 miles on mine. I floored it for the very first time this week. MAN OH MAN is it quick. 0-30 comes FAST. This car from light to light in the city will keep up with a lot of hot hatches.

We’re at a sad time to be car guy. I was reading the comment section of this video and the people arguing that automatics are better and people don’t want manuals anymore just don’t understand the engagement you get even if your car is technically slower than the automatic version .
I own a 2015 golf TDI in 6mt, I wouldn’t have bought the car in dct just because they’re dull and lifeless. Sure it’s faster, sure it’s easier in traffic, but you don’t feel as connected and the clutch isn’t that bad

I have the same car in same color. It's enough for me.

Thanks for explaining how the hybrid system works. I’m considering a hybrid for my next car. 👍😁

The Toyota D-4S engines are better than either Honda or Mazda engines simply by virtue of using both direct + port injection together interchangeably. That offers several operating advantages over a 100% direct injection engine & no worry of the carbon deposit buildup that 100% direct injection bring because the cleaning additives in top tier fuels cannot physically hit a good portion of what they need to in order to prevent it (unlike with port-injection).

The only way to make a hybrid bearable is with a felt mechanical manual transmission. Less weight needs to be a focus for Honda as well; getting heavier sucks.

Man, I thoroughly enjoyed your review of this, imho, an underappreciated representation of Hondas' ability to manufacture a car that meets the needs of so many different people. However, Honda leaving out rear seat acommodations such as seat pockets, vents, phone charger connectability, at such a high asking price is forgivable but not unrecognized. Honda should be careful how it ignores/analyses customer feedback regarding these buyer needs and desires. Anyway thanks for an excellent review my friend.

We need a 300hp+ Honda coupe so bad! 2027 RSX Type-S anyone??

In fact, at least half of all crossover/SUV owners only own one because a hatchback isn't available on most cars.

No, this isn't a Si replacement. Hybrid lacks manual transmission, or a LSD, weighs more, softer suspension, weaker brakes, less seat bolstering, costs more...

Love that color, I may consider this for my next ride after my lease is up on my Kia Forte GT.

If you brake torque from a standstill, you shave a full second off your 0-60 time. Car and Driver magazine recorded 6.2 seconds. This method bypasses the simulated shifts in favor of holding the revs constant at the power peak, like a typical CVT.

Hybrids tend to be fickle with power mods and tuning because of the high voltage systems. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious how much torque a direct drive transmission can handle.
