I spent a night with the Marsh Arabs of Iraq who have lived in the marshlands of Mesopotamia for thousands of years. Their population dwindled after Saddam Hussein drained their wetlands in the 1990s because they didn’t support his regime but recently their communities have begun to recover, and one of them named Abu had invited me to spend the night with his family. All in all, this was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

As an iraqi grown up in sweden it has been difficult to correct some stereotype thoughts People have about my country and sometimes it just feels hopeless, especially when lies are faster than the truth.But videos like this made by people with good heart gives me reliefs. I've been there twice with the military and the little contact I had with locals was just like you said, they are just like us, trying to survive and have some fun.
