Is SRAM AXS Compatible With a Shimano Cassette? Does AXS work with Shimano? In this video, I replace the Shimano XT derailleur and SLX shifter on my bike and install a SRAM AXS upgrade kit. Will the world as we know it come to an end?

A clarification of one point in the video regarding indexing. You can micro index the derailleur in 0.25mm increments. It does not index each gear separately. If you micro adjust one gear it affects the other gears as well. Much like a typical cable actuated derailleur. Something to consider if you are shopping for AXS.

I use a Deore derailleur and shifter and a sram nx 12 speed cogs and yes the shifting is smooth and light. I've been using this hybrid for more tham 2 years now

Yes it will work I thought this was an old video 😆. 🤘 alot of people are running a mixed setup with components they prefer their drivetrain "this shifter is better than this one" ect. Shimano with wireless sram kit :)

Great info my new bikes all XT, with hyperglide chain so i have been wondering about this?! Its like a no go subject online mix n match but I couldn't care less lol, but now do i go with di2 or the EDR Chinese one that is flawless and works with both. Trp is taking to long to bring theirs to the public we haven't even seen a price listing as yet

I was asking.. so thanks for answering. I just bought a bike that is kitted out with Shimano, but I love my AXS on my other bike. Planning to make this same adjustment. Since my new bike is an actual XC bike, I'm dealing with way too much in the way of cable mgmt, so both the dropper and shifting are going wireless.. just can't stand this messy cockpit!

On one of my bikes I'm running an SLX derailleur and shifter with a SRAM chain and a Microshift Cassette. It runs just as well as my all SLX bike. It is interesting to see what does and doesn't work though.

Got mine in the post today. The GX upgrade set is going at a good price right now. It came with a 2-button shifter instead of the paddle, but I like that! Now, it's time to figure out how to install it on my 12s XT Cube Action Team full sus! Everything is brand new. The bike has been used only three times. I can't get the hang of what's up and down with that rapid-fire XT shifter! It just feels like a rough clunk click every trip, haha! I'm just going to strip the factory grease off the chain and get some squirt wax on first, as I have a few days out this fortnight! I'm more curious about the chain length. Would the new Shimano chain just go back on as is, or will it need links removed? I can't add them, obviously, as there are no spare links to do so. Any help here would be great

If I understood you correctly, I think you cannot individually index each cog. The adjustment moves the overall indexing altogether. If you shift the indexing on the 12th gear, that shifts your indexing on 11th gear too

I run shimano Cassette 12 speed, gx axs with sram chain. Works the same as shimano chain so ye u right. Hg+ etc. All Marketing.

great video, thanks! I‘m going to upgrade my XT to XX1 axs on my Giant XTC Advanced SL Bike as well, but I need to stay on the Shimano cassette, because otherwise I also would need to change the rear wheel. I hope it will work just as fine as yours!

A derailleur is just a swinging parallellogram. It does not have indexing built into it for predetermined shifting or spacing. The compatitbility lies with the shifters which do and the cassettes which do as well. If you have the same shifter/casette combo, the derailleur doesn't matter. This is why you can buy the few other derailleurs which are offerd as aftermarket. Note: some more recent derailleurs (higher end) will have a different path of motion and might cause a noticeable alignment problem with the indexing, but most it will noy matter.
