"You don't become a journalist to make powerful people comfortable."

That's real!

We cannot talk about reconciliation without being able to reconcile with our true and whole history! Bam, well said and so true. Lift the veil of denial so everyone can move forward and prosper.

Does the book also cover how Africans sold other Africans to the Europeans in 1619?

The history pre 1776 has always been covered it's just not the official starting point like 1776.

History, the full history (not just what we were taught up to now) is necessary to understand the reality of where we find ourselves and why. Our country as we know it today was built on horrific actions, heroic actions, and have *never* been fair since Europeans colonized it (I am of European decent so my ancestors were a part of this). Thank you Nikole Hannah-Jones, for your work. We are stronger together.

Remember a long time ago (2 weeks) when democrats and the media told you Glen Younkin and Republicans were lying to you, and this material doesn’t even exist? LOL

Why don't these people focus their efforts on Africa and Asia, .. where slavery STILL exists to this day???
Because they can't make as much money that way, that's why.

1619. Before Washington and Jefferson and Franklin and the declaration of independence . Deep history. Slaves built this nation on our backs but none of the awards .

Slavery lasted 165 years prior to the United States existence and 81 years after it formed. Another valid point, the north told the south to quit slavery and they said no, they were so scared to end slavery that they chose to have war instead and we know what happened next, and ever since then little by little year by year African ppl have climbed the latter of success in this country. It’s been tough but they had friends from white institutions helping them to get to where they are now. A racist America never would have voted for a black President or Vice President in the White House. She panders to black racists. I have no doubt in my mind that NHJs is herself a racist.

It would be helpful if Americans understood that the Constitution does not deem enslaved Americans as 3/5th of a person. The majority of the Constitution signers dealt in wholesale slave trading. Slaveholder states had fewer non-enslaved people, which gave those states fewer Congressional seats, and non-slave holding states could end slavery w/a majority vote. The 3/5th compromised allowed slave holding states to tip the majority vote in slavery's favor by adding the counts of 3 out of every 5 enslaved person. They were counted as whole people, they just didn't count all of them. The 2nd purpose for the 3/5th count is head tax. Enslaved people, counted as property for tax purposes. The tax was as high as $10.00 per person. Slave holders hid many of the enslaved, to avoid paying taxes. With the 3/5th compromise, it encouraged enslavers to count all they enslaved, because it gave them more seats in Congress to keep slavery going. The 3/5th compromise was never about enslaved people being less than human. It was about power to legislated slavery into the future and about the collection of taxes for states and the federal government.

I'm getting that book. And have my grands, children and I discuss it. I have always taught mine more than the school perspective. I'm 65 and taught them concerning the truth of colonization and Columbus. We need to do that now more then ever with the fake CRT outrage. Thank you.

The TRUTH is needed and the 1619 Project is the Black perspective of what really happened.
