The Petty family is legendary in the sport of stockcar racing. This year, the Petty family celebrated their 75th year in racing. The members of the Petty family are NASCAR Hall of Fame members: Richard Petty (2010), Lee Petty (2011), Dale Inman (2012) and Maurice Petty (2014). Lee Petty won the very first Daytona 500 (1959) and Richard Petty won seven Daytona 500 events. Lee Petty won three NASCAR Championships. Richard Petty won 200 NASCAR races and seven NASCAR Championships. Standing beside these legendary drivers are the Crew Chief, Dale Inman, and Chief Mechanic, Maurice Petty. For more than three decades these two men prepared the Petty race cars and built the race engines that won 188 races and seven NASCAR Championships with Petty. Richard Petty and the Petty Enterprises team earned the right to be titled “The King” of stock car racing. I’m sure that was on Richard’s mind as he was driving this legend of a race car around on these parade laps. Thanks.
