Raspberry Pi Stop motion Machine

Clem dreams of making his own Stopmotion movie, just like the claymation films he loved as a kid. But creating these kinds of movies is very difficult and tedious. So he builds a machine that makes it much easier, is controlled with his smartphone and even moves on its own to make the stunning Hollywood shots he dreams of!

Cool idea and great execution! One small tip for the animation videos: it might help to set exposure and focus to manual.

Rad project!!! The flickering isn't only due to the camera being in auto, and focus breathing, as seen with slight zoom in and outs at point. But what also happens is the apature ring inside the lens never goes back to to exact same spot every time, so there is a slight difference in exposure. What is usually done, is aperture and focus is set, and the lens is half screwed off the body, just so it's disengaged, so that the aperture ring is set in place, this dramaticly removes the flicker :) great work as always 😁😁😁

Very nice project idea! One useful feature I remember seeing on a stop motion camera is a viewfinder that alternates between the current live view and the last captured frame so you can see the difference before taking the shot. I suppose you could use the Raspberry Pi's camera for something like that.

Stop motion and timelapse kind of requires both focus and exposure to be set completely manually. Otherwise the image will almost always flicker and flutter with each frame taken as the camera does its auto adjustments slightly different resulting in almost random exposure and focus.

If you have a motion control rig like this you can probably use axel for driving focus and one for running a declicked aperture to get very smooth adjustments of both. But if you don't have access to those controls on the rig, you're better off just locking those settings down for each shot. It'll look way better.
