I’ve always liked having a 3D model of a character to help you with those tricky angles in 2D and I personally wonder why more people don’t do it. Maybe they’re better at drawing than me idk 😅

That is such a smart idea for illustration and/or traditional animation! You're drawing the same character hundreds of times, having a physical reference that you can manipulate until it's just how you want it is amazing.

Now I'm just thinking about sewing different heads and clothing to put on an art doll. Put padding in certain places to make different characters' figures etc. Imagine being able to just easily grab a outfit out of a box and turn your classic wooden reference doll into your character.

Modeling characters is extremely useful! All of my characters start in blender, even though they’re 2D.
