Federal pay freeze could affect tens of thousands of civilian workers in Hawaii

Pay raises that were supposed to go into effect in a matter of months might not happen after President Donald Trump announced Thursday he wanted to scrap the wage bumps.

Yah, I remember in the 2009 failing economy, and unemployment was skyrocketing and small businesses were failing at every turn, Congress gave themselves pay raises. I have a small business with 15 employees, and during the struggle, I didn't take home a paycheck for 9 months, in an effort to keep my business afloat. My wonderful employees, volunteered to cut their own salaries 20% to help out. We made it through, and they have all more then benefited from their sacrifices. It must be nice to be employed by the government that when ever there is a need for more money (for pay raises), you can increase taxes to the public, to get what they feel is what they deserve.

Freezing pay wages is a disaster if you are a worker. It reduces ones 403B contriburions, it reduces the amount of Social Security that they might get, it hurts them for a life time every time you freeze them.

Government employees already have nearly the highest wages of any anywhere, and they have excellent health care, especially since they don't have to pay like the rest of us. I wouldn't shed many tears over this, since it just might mean our Federal budget is more in line with reality. Of course, the Democratic state of Hawaii will make it look like we're being singled out, but we aren't. This is across the board to all Federal employees in the nation.

I think he is right but all the unemployeed and homeless issues need to be addressed..noone in this country should be living on a street especially veterans, woman and children. No value for human life in this country. Out of sight out of mind it seems!!

Anytime these federal workers cry about no raise on their already 70, 000+++ salaries. I want them to look at all the homeless people in our country and other countries, and really evaluate if they need more money or should be helping their fellow people.

He wants hard working federal workers, including many veterans, to sacrifice a modest pay increase to offset his massive tax cuts for corporations & millionaires. He said that the pay increase would "bust the budget."

A highly advanced and more than a robot is a person but a person cannot be considered a robot because it does not need to be programmed. A person makes decisions which separates one from the other, which can consider the individual more or less then a person. I am choseon king..

I'm a gov't employee making 65k annually. I was upset by the pay freeze at 1st but I thought with all the changes Trump is making to tax law it just creates more work for us which means OVERTIME PAY something we never use to get. 2.1% raise is only $0.66 more per hour but I'll gladly take $50 bucks an hour on OT instead....THANKS TRUMP LOL
