It happened to me, too. I got the black magic pocket, and the footage was so much better than everything else I have used. It looked like a movie, and that is all I wanted.

I suffer from gas, and I’ve looked at the camera so many times and you hit the nail on the head as to why I’ve never bought it, auto focus. stabilisation is another lesser issue but not having both has always made it a dealbreaker for me. Great video and see your perspective.

For me its the Sigma FP. Great for photos and great for video. And small.

A thing to consider.... Sony Advertises Total Dynamic range. Black magic Advertises Usable dynamic range.

Excellent! After at least sixty hours of research, this is also the camera I decided to buy. I have several Canon lens from my photography days. I’ll buy a good adapter for that.
I don’t need auto-focus. I plan to do audio separately. Love that I can use a SSD. I’m going to fashion my own battery with a 50 amp hour 14.8 volt lithium ion battery to give me at least twelve hours of constant use.

My friend has shot me on a Black Magic, it’s beautiful what comes out but too heavy and not one man band enough for me filming myself

If they ever start making smaller cameras I’d be down to try one out with continuous af of course :)

It's funny... listening to all your requirements (dual ISO, RAW, false colors, peaking, 10-14 bit rates and WON'T break the bank! etc.) ... and I am like, "Oh, are you talking about my EOS-M & Magic Lantern?!" My EOS-M crosses all those specs. LOL
Of course, there are extreme limitations to it, but it is as close as we can get to a true BRAW cine cam in a budget as we can get. That has been my A Cam since last year.
Regardless, awesome video! Great tempo, video and audio visuals. Thanks for this! If I ever could afford this I would jump ship.

OLPF(Optical Low Lass Filter) is more for helping your frames not have moiré and false color, that rainbow effect you see on mostly man-made objects like clothes. It blurs the image slightly to remove some of that sharpness and in doing so stops the effect. The one in this camera works fairly well also.

BRAW is absolutely fantastic! I miss it every day :D

Thanks for the video. I just ordered the camera from CVP for €1.750.(1.900$) A little correction 4:45 An optical Lo pass filter helps avoid aliasing, not IR.

If you really want a camera with AF, you can get the S5iix as a B cam which has great AF and class leading IBIS. It also shoots open gate and records ProRes to SSDs directly. You can also use all the L mount lenses on it.

Continuing from my previous comment, I am a solo shooter, and the most important thing for me is equipment suited for run-and-gun filmmaking. I love Blackmagic Design; I think they make great products. Most importantly, they are not resting—they're always developing. Right now, for someone like me, Sony offers the best value for the money. However, I believe that in the near future, Blackmagic will deliver a proper camera for solo shooters.

As a long time Blackmagic shooter, I am moving away from Blackmagic Pocket cameras, you might want to check out the Panasonic S5iiX. I think that is the best of all the worlds. It's full frame, can shoot BRAW, ProRes RAW, great autofocus, great low light performance, can shoot to SD and SSD, incredible IBIS, great dynamic range, etc. The only thing it is missing is built in ND but I am ok with putting ND on the lens. Also, pricing is really great considering what you get.

I went from this camera BMPCK6K Pro to the Canon R5C because of its hybrid design which includes cinematic capabilities and has a full frame 45mp sensor for stills. It’s honestly the best of both worlds, had it for over a year now, used it in studio, out in the field and travelling and honestly couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve decided to keep this even after considering the recent R5MK2.

I’ve been super happy with the FX3 & A7siii. Over 3 years old and they are still great performers. Great video, black magic raw is really great to work with in post.

I just bought a BMCC 6k FF after a lot of angst, trying to decide between GH6 (having previously made all my gear choices centred on the GH cameras), Sigma FP and this camera. I was totally sold on it for 2 simple reasons: 1) that image is just sublime, and 2) the BRaw codec with integrated proxies workflow in DaVinci is unbeatable. The GH7 just came out, and I still don't have any regret (though the camera looks awesome). The BM user interface is a joy to use, and I feel it lets you just focus on your image not the camera. The FP image is lovely too, and I'm sure I'd have been happy had I gone that route, but I suspect the user experience and workflow would have had more friction in it. And as for autofocus, I've bought the PDMovie LiveAir3 Smart - it's more compact than the superb but bulky DJI system and does what I need. I'll gradually buy more full frame glass, but my APSC Sigma Art zooms can meantime cover full frame at their longer ends of the zoom range. And I just bought my first full frame anamorphic lens...

If this will be your only camera though, I'd say the a5ii is a better bet for doing photo as well. And if you absolutely need Braw you can get a video assist which is an absolute beast of a monitor.

I got a similar story starting out. But I don't regret 'most' of my purchasing decisions. GAS is part of the learning curve. I learnt a lot from the tools I used the least cause it gives me better contrast to the tools I use the most. If I had not had that experience I would not truly know the tools I have. Everyone has to go though it. Consider it part of the cost of your education.

Jamie, spending on a "wrong" camera and lenses is part of the growing process, wee all did it 😅

for battery you can also get a DTAP adaptor and carry a absolutely massive battery in a backpack or on a belt and wire it to the camera.
