The emergency surgery to remove my ectopic pregnancy was rough, but being in pain at home was even worse. I wanted to share this small fallopian tube removal battle with you while also showing the outer bandage removal. The first day home after surgery is always a tough, but I was so glad to be recovering in my own space.

Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ibd #crohnsdisease #ostomy

I just wanted to clarify - I am doing so much better now (this was two weeks ago) and am long off of pain medication. They did give me some more medication to make it through the weekend, which is all I needed it for. By Monday I was done with it. I wanted to show the importance of adequate pain management for patients in need. I recognize the abuse issue, but unfortunately it has left post-op patients and chronic pain patients to suffer.

It's completely unacceptable that doctors leave their patients in pain after having major surgery laws need to change. My heart goes out to you sweetheart ❤

My husband just had a total knee replacement and my husband got enough pain meds for 3 days after a 12 hour discharge after surgery. They were also 5 mg oxys. He called and told the doctor how much pain he was in and they told him to go to the ER if he was in pain they could not give any more pain meds. He’s been miserable. He did go to the ER and got relief for 6-8 hours V and they sent him home and told him to take Tylenol. It’s so sad how they allowed to make people suffer after surgeries. I’m glad you are feeling a bit better Maggie….sending love and hugs❤

C-section mama tip: roll up a bath towel and press it up against your abdomen when walking, sneezing, coughing. Helps tremendously with countering the pressure 😊❤ I know this might be a little late to help so much now based on the timeline, but hopefully it can help you or someone in the future. Edit to add: I am so sorry you had to go through this Maggie. My heart goes out to you. xoxo

I'm stunned you were released this early after major surgery and then given inadequate pain management. Women's pain is often disregarded by the medical profession. Study upon study showing that sadly.

So glad you are feeling much better. You are a warrior queen. ❤

I can not believe that you were prescribed so little pain medication. This medical system has really swung too far from using pain meds especially with such quick discharges. My heart goes out to you having to go through this.

Eight 5mg pills are not enough. I leave the hospital ASAP after all my surgeries, by choice. I'm begging to leave the moment I wake from surgery, so I can't complain about my experiences but when my mother was dying of stage 4 terminal lung and brain cancer, we had to outright beg for medications. They are just so afraid to give anything due to drs being blamed for so many individuals abusing them. We were first told no by her doctor. Neither she, nor anyone in our family, have ever had an issue with addiction. The dr, a freaking oncologist, told us he wanted to wait as long as possible due to the dangers of becoming addicted if she took what we asked for, a pain medication and an anxiety med because knowing you are dying causes extreme anxiety. Addiction? She was bedridden and terminal. If she became addicted before she died, so what? No one should die in pain and in fear. It took her hospice nurses helping us fight until she was finally given Morphine and Xanax, dying just 5 weeks later. The pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction where those in true need are now not getting deserved and needed pain relief. 😥😥

Sadly, pain management these days is a joke. I’m a recently retired nurse with an end stage disease, and a back that is not operable, with painful degeneration. The amount of difficulty I have getting pain medication is ridiculous. I’m treated worse than the worst addict that rolls in from off the streets. I took the smallest dose of hydrocodone for 7 years, no change. When I asked for one dose extra if needed, it was absolutely awful. It took family members intervention to get this done, and now I’m treated worse. As soon as I’m able, I’ll go on hospice.

I had a similar experience many years ago.My ectopic pregnancy was due to scar tissue from multiple surgeries related to endometriosis. Regardless, I had an ectopic pregnancy and methotrexate to treat it like you and lost a fallopian tube in the process. It was so sad and painful as well. I wanted to say that our daughter (from third attempt IVF after the ectopic) just turned 26, and our son (the most amazing young man adopted from South Korea) just turned 21. If you want a family you will make it happen! And beautiful families can happen in so many different ways. Keep up your amazing attitude. You are very inspiring!

Never heard od doctors waiting to see if an etopic pregnancy would rupture. Usually operate immediatef. You are looking much better Maggie. Your emotional attitude is beyter also.
Pretty flowers behind you. 💕
Oh and of course Zak is such a blessing for you. Lovely man.

This is just cruel. I went through this after my second C-section. The laws in WVa are equally draconian. I feel so much empathy for you. The inadequate prescribing has to STOP. You were NOT being whiny, you were in LEGITIMATE PAIN. I hate that you had to go through this. You do not need to justify feeling miserable. ❤

Wishing you as comfortable and speedy a recovery as possible. You are a warrior.

As a Pharmacy Tech for 27 years, that is terrible!! The least I've ever seen is 10-12. You had surgery. Major surgery. I'm so sorry that happened to you ❤❤

I am so terribly sorry for all you’ve had to endure. No one should feel the loss of a child, no matter the child’s age or gestation. You are so strong Maggie. Thank you for showing the tears and not so good stuff. It keeps things in perspective for sure. I believe one day you will hold your baby earth side. Take care, heal, and face the world again. Children are blessings. I lost my 1st at 5 weeks gestation, had 2 healthy boys (not twins), and had the privilege of helping raise my now 20 year old bonus daughter. You and Zak are so sweet and kind and deserve the world!

I’m so sorry. As a chronic pain warrior myself it sucks how horribly they treat patients in true verifiable pain. We have to advocate for ourselves which is sad especially right after surgery. Sending you prayers & healing vibes.

I've had two surgeries on my neck an it was dang painful. It's like time stands still. I did alot of crying. Feel blessed because I had no one to console me. My husband passed away twenty-two yrs ago. Praying you will find a way to have a child of your own. I enjoy watching. Take care

I'm so sorry you've had this experience. I've been holding off on saying anything, because it just wasn't the time or place. As an OB/NICU RN, I have given Methotrexate for ectopic pregnancies in the hospital, but only in the hospital. I have never cared for someone who was monitored as an outpatient, and your experience is exactly why it makes me so nervous! (I myself have had a ruptured appendix while mowing my yard and didn't have timely surgery - and what a chaotic mess!!). I am SO sorry to hear of your experience. This is probably a good time to say, my views are likely very tainted from having working in this specialty for decades! 🤭 Having had something rupture that shouldn't have, is also likely causing my views to be tainted! I'm obviously not a fan of outpatient methotrexate for ectopic pregnancies! 😬 I'm so pleased to hear you are now on the mend! Keep hanging in there - and I'm sorry for your loss. 💕🌷

Bless your heart ❤️. I am so so sorry that you are going through all of this. Yes, C-sections are rough to say the least 😢. I have had 3. My first was the absolute worst! Was so hard to care for a baby and the surgery site. I have had 5 total abdominal surgeries and they're the hardest surgeries to recover from in my opinion. You involve your core in every movement. Praying for you. ❤❤

Oh gosh Maggie. That was crazy with the inadequate amount of pain meds. There was a law passed last fall in PA that put even more restrictions on controlled substances. I am not sure if they lowered the amount of pain meds given at discharge from surgeries, but that is scary. I am on a controlled substance, and I have to jump through hoops to get it refilled at times - I am talking I never have gone over the dosage. The one thing the law did was prevent transfers from pharmacies of controlled substances. I was staying in Pittsburgh and wanted my meds transferred to a pharmacy that was owned by the same company, and they said they were no longer allowed to transfer from one store to another due to the new restrictions. I have had surgery where I did not get an adequate amount of pain medication (actually the dosage was low). It sucked and I was up crying all night. Having to fight for that stuff is a pain when you are already in pain physically. I am so glad you are on the mend now.

I had a C-section and my husband helped me with my bandage. I had clips. I had one side that was harder to heal. Thank goodness I had help because I had to take care of me and baby. Cannot remember how many pain pills they gave me. I am glad you are are in the mend. My daughter underwent fertility treatment twice. The first one ended in the baby passing at 22 weeks. She had lots of birth defects but the doctor told them it was nothing that they did wrong. They tried a second time and it was successful. They now have a beautiful little 3-year-old girl. She truly is a miracle baby because she is the only one that survived out of all the eggs my daughter had. She is such a blessing.
