July 17, 1976 | For two weekends in July the Over the Line tournament turns San Diego’s Fiesta Island into party central. Oh, it’s a serious tournament involving a simple game—but it’s what goes on around it—that makes it a huge fiesta! OTL tournament founder Mike Curren explained the rules to CBS 8’s Laurie Singer. Hit the ball into a triangle—out, two fouls—out, strike—out, if they catch the ball—out. Three hits is a run and the most runs win. Curren was one of the tournament’s founder and member of OMBAC, Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. The first tournament was in 1953. It’s known for raunchy team names—most can’t be mentioned in news reports. The styles may have changed but the festive scene in 1976 is very much the same as it will be when teams hit the sand in July 2022.

This whole thing is offensive, us average folks can't run for a COUPLE OF HOURS, a few minutes at most.
