In today's video we meet the camera-shy Caitlin, one of the people living in Bomanoma situated over 8000km from Vienna, in Narok, Kenya, only 40km from Maasai Mara. She is an American who moved to Kenya and will bring us inside her pimped up mud home which everyone in the homestead fondly refers to as the Bougie Manyatta. Caitlin will give us a glimpse into her life inside this cool Maasai Homestead.

Bomanoma, is a home that's unexpectedly exemplifying the modern way of life of the Maasai community that's led by a young Maasai woman, Selina, and her young American Husband Brian.

In 'Living in Vienna' we spotlight life as it happens in Vienna. We mainly share what's going on in Vienna during our insightful walks and/or in arranged or impromptu interviews with Viennese people. All the times, we keep our ears on the ground and our eyes in the air to bring you to the front seat of life as it is in Vienna. If it's happening in Vienna, we are catching it and sharing the moments in time with you.

what on earth could be more desireable than living in your own space accompanied by your dog, surrounded by humans you like 🍀

My grandmothers house in the village in Nigeria was made out of mud! People asking why the roofs were built lower, I think it just never occurred to our people make the roof higher . I don't think there was any reason. I like how she has applied some western building standards to upgrade a traditional building method . My grandmother eventually coated the outside of her house with cement to prevent damage from the rains !

We usually redo the wall surface regularly and even mix waterproof cement with the soil to reduce surface erosion and increase the compactness.
The use of solar and WiFi in that manyatta is awesome.

Lucky Americans they can just move to Africa and live comfortably and accepted by community in Africa. However its different case for Africans we cant do that

When westerners live in a mud Hse it's eco friendly it's posh, when we live in a mud Hse it's poverty, just my view.

The more simple life is, the more wholesome it is. Some people figure this, some don't. Those who figure, some take long, some figure quickly.

I love it ! I wouldn't take space for myself in Africa . I would rather see my African brothers and sisters thrive on their own land . Although, my family is West African I am also European and Asian . I live in America and have my family here . Were situated here, but I would love to visit .

You mentioned the roofs are traditionally lower, maybe it helps to keep the room cooler? I was thinking there must be a logical explanation for the lower roofs. When people have little to no resources, they must get creative and innovative.

Great video!

Thanks for your video. Very interesting. I would still need a sort of bathroom with a sink even if I have to use bucket water. Not to keen on sharing bathrooms. That is one of my necessities. That would be important. Even if I had to share the toilet area and kitchen, I could handle that. It is good to have outsiders share their opinions, that is how we grow. My biggest problem in the tropics is the lizards. I am terrified of them and they seem to be everywhere..

Being from Sudan & lived my whole life in mud houses, i think the roof are kind of low as a matter of cost effectiveness. The taller you go the more expensive it would be, just my guess... As for the outside also we used mud & animal dry dunk, mix it & blaster the whole house from outside. In dryer areas it might last up to 7-8 years..

Very beautiful & peaceful
