Viewing My Stanford Admissions File | How I Actually Got In

Hi, everyone! Today, I take a look at my Stanford admissions file, which contains the scores and comments that my applications readers and interviewer gave me. In other words, my admissions file tells me how I got accepted to Stanford in the first place!

Just note that this file doesn't explicitly spell anything out. A lot of information from my application and my readers was reduced to abbreviations and numbers. As such, I had to do some guesswork here and there. Ultimately, a lot of what I say comes from my own speculation. Still, I thought taking a look at my admissions file would be interesting.

I’m a Stanford graduate (MA, 1981). I would have little interest in requesting a review of my application decision file only to ponder the meaning of cryptic acronyms and various rating numbers with no explicit scale for reference. I applied to only two universities, Brown being the other one. I got Stanford and Brown, so maybe the Stanford decision wasn’t a fluke.
