World’s Longest A380 Flight in First Class - Is It Worth It?

Last week, I flew on an Emirates A380 from Los Angeles to Dubai. Emirates has re-introduced the A380 back to LA. This is currently the longest A380 flight in the world. I was able to experience 16 hours of luxury in Emirates First Class. But is this First Class experience worth the extra price?

LAX Bradley Terminal was very busy at check-in. I visited the Duty-Free shop and the Emirates Lounge, which have both now re-opened. I also had a quick tour at the new LAX West Bradley terminal before my flight boarding. There is a tunnel that links it to the original Bradley Terminal. A lot of domestic flights are also using the new Bradley extension. There are good windows for plane spotting opportunities at the new extension.

The Emirates A380 took off very heavy out of LAX. Flight time was 15 hours 30 minutes, with almost the entire flight being in daylight as we travelled over the North Pole. Emirates has launched new Bvlgari amenity kits onboard and I was able to check out both the male and female versions. I enjoyed my flight in my private suite with private dining and rest. I also used the Emirates First Class Shower and Spa, to have a shower in the sky to refresh me before landing in Dubai.

At the end of my flight, I share some good tips on how to upgrade to First Class on Emirates. I also make my conclusion

For years, Sam's positivity, humbleness and great attitude shows whenever he speaks with people around him. Those are some of the reasons, people keep on coming back to watch his travels. I feel like I also get to experience first/business class whenever I watch him.

Great job as always Sam!! While most of my flying days are over now, I spent 30 years of my engineering career traveling about 300, 000 airline miles per year. My family and I (American) lived in Singapore, Tokyo, and Shanghai -- for over 20 of those incredible years. And my wife loved Hong Kong. My Uncle Bill was an Air Force pilot, commercial airline captain, and I still vividly recall when I was 8 years old, he took me into the cockpit for a flight -- I was forever hooked -- just like you!! An education in aeronautical & aerospace engineering became the end result. Now, at the age of 67, I just watch every one of your videos, including lectures, and relax, enjoy all of the forever memories. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK YOU DO...

2:32 "It's disappointing when you go on an international flight and don't have a lounge..."

Yes, so disappointing 🤣 (Cries in row 568 of economy with self brought sandwiches to the airport)

Thank you Sam for treating the flight attendants with dignity and respect. The Chinese Baw your mother made that you ate and shared was one of the highlights for me. All the best and more adventures to come...

We fly every year (Covid excepting) London to Sydney and stay about a month in our flat out there. For many years, my wife and I flew economy but, as we got older, we could no longer live with the economy seats (not food, not toilets, just the seats). So, we began to fly business class; usually Emirates but also Etihad and, once, China Southern (Usually A380 but, once because I flew via Perth, Boeing). We were upgraded by Emirates on one leg to First Class. A few personal observations:

If you can afford it, Business Class is well worth it. Just for the seats which should be fully flat. Food is great, TV entertainment is fine. The individual seats are quite private.

First class. We got the same kind of seat but in a cubicle the same size as BC but with a sliding door. Food the same but you can choose the times. TV is bigger; you can have a shower on board if you want. Frankly, we wouldn’t pay to go FC. The extra cost isn’t justified for us.

The last time - before Covid - our agent came back with the cost for Emirates - it had gone up an awful lot. So we said, if Emirates/Etihad/Singapore are top of the Premier League, who are still Premier League but lower down. He came back with a couple of choices and we selected China Southern Airlines. Saved £1500? Again, our thoughts

- no chauffeur collection and delivery both ends. With the money we saved, we could easily organise private taxis
- lounges. Not bad - say 90% of Emirates - but certainly no complaints
- seats - as per Emirates/Etihad etc.
- food - Excellent. More Chinese dishes, but Emirates/Etihad obviously have Arabian dishes on offer
- service - perhaps better than Emirates

Lessons for us. BC is all we need; don’t think that you have to fly Emirates/Etihad/ Singapore etc. to get what we need.

Back in the EC days, we flew BA and Qantas several times. It pains me to say but those flights were the worst that we ever had. We’ve never even considered those two again. Does being a national carrier encourage complacency?

Sam, your videos get better and better. What an outstanding summary of your flight. All the little extras you add to your videos make them 1st Class. Well done and thanks for allowing us to share the experience.
