Geo-Congress is the annual meeting of the Geo-Institute - sort of a geotechnical family reunion. Every year in February or March, our community gathers for amazing keynotes, great technical talks, the biggest geotechnical exhibit hall in North America, and a lot of fun! To prepare for the 2023 conference in Los Angeles, we bring you a series of live streams featuring case histories from Southern California!

Our second in the series will be presented Thursday, December 15, at 2pm ET. Chukwuebuka Nweke of the University of Southern California will present on "Seismic Site Response in Southern California Sedimentary Basins."

Dr. Chukwuebuka (Buka) Nweke is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California, Viterbi School of Engineering. He directs the N.E.S.T Research Group where his research is focused on solving problems at the intersection of geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, seismology, and geomorphology. Some of his investigation topics include: characterizing sedimentary basin effects in earthquake hazards, evaluation of physics-based earthquake simulations for the purposes of analyzing associated hazards and improving infrastructure resilience, and investigating the mechanical behavior (static and dynamic) of bio-cemented soils in order to establish sustainable alternatives for hazard mitigation.
