Xiaomi Book S 12.4 Review: Windows ARM or Surface Pro 8?

The Xiaomi Book S 12.4 is a Windows tablet that directly competes with others like the Microsoft Surface Pro 8. It differentiates itself through an ARM processor - in this case a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 chipset that is supported by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Another difference is that it's running Windows 11 in S Mode which means you can install apps from the Microsoft Store only out of the box.

With the Xiaomi Book S, we get a 12.35-inch IPS display that you can write on with the Xiaomi Smart Pen stylus. This tablet has a full metal body, features a USB C port and a microSD card slot, and you can get it with an optional keyboard cover.

ARM seems like the way to go, with the insane clock speed and power draw x86 needs to keep scaling up. Seems like they've made alot of progress since the last Windows Arm review I saw, but I think it still needs a few more generations before the public will want to switch over. Need the apps.

Hopefully Xiaomi can make a G2 version with Snapdragon X Plus/Elite chipset, 16/32GB RAM, and more I/O ports. I still love this tablet because it run Windows, not Android.

I'm waiting to see what the Huawei MateBook E Go performs like. I think there is an announcement today and it's rumoured it will have a Qualcomm chip. The last MateBook E was a beautiful device.

Hello Andrea, my Surface pro 4 tablet corrects my handwriting, stylizes and flattens it, taking away expressiveness (this is conditioned by software). On the contrary, the Samsung S pen or the Apple pen respect my handwriting, making it more natural to write with them. How would you describe the writing on the Xiaomi Book s? More like a S pen and Apple pen, or like a Surface pen? I am looking for a tablet where I can use full Office and take notes but without repeating the bad writing experience of the Surface. why can't companis use snapdragon 8+gen processor for windows tablet also? I mean I know the technical details if mobile processors are usable for Windows on arm they why anyone hasn't done it yet
